Default REAPER (create new project) startup option

Hi-

I expected this option to create a new REAPER project with the template I have specified in Project Settings, but it just opens a new empty file with no tracks.

If I do File>New I get my startup template as expected.

In other words, using this option doesn't do anything different from just starting REAPER with no option.

Sorry if this is known. Nothing came up with a quick search.

Thanks-

-Susan

P.S. This is with 4.7pre10/64, Win 64.

Works as expected here. Can you check if the start menu shortcut is still OK?

Right-click it, then click "Properties", the target should be 'C:\YourInstallFolder\REAPER\reaper.exe -new'

In particular if you run multiple REAPER versions on that computer, double-check if the shortcut is pointing to the installation for which you configured the startup template.

Hi Ollie-

Thanks for checking.

Yes, the the target is correct.

Actually, it works as expected if I run it directly from Start > Programs (not worth it ), but not if I run it from the shortcut with the 'new' option pinned to the Start Menu or the Taskbar.

It's not a big deal, just seems odd. Maybe it's a Windows issue.

Thanks again-

-Susan

Are you running Windows 7 or 8.x? I think that should work on both, you have to check the properties of the start menu or taskbar shortcut, maybe they're missing the '-new' command line argument then.

This is Win 7.

The shortcuts both have the -new parameter (start menu & taskbar):

"C:\Program Files\REAPER (x64)\reaper.exe" -new

but it's being ignored for some reason.

I'll try it on Win 8 later.

Thanks-

Should the closing quote be outside -new ?

Hi Amazed-

That's one of the first things I tried, but got the error that the name wasn't valid.

Dunno. If it works for everybody else it must be something screwy here.

I added my template .rpp as a parameter to the shortcut and that does work, so I'll do it that way.

Thanks-

-Susan

This finally worked for me...

"C:\Program Files\REAPER (x64)\reaper.exe" -new

...after realizing the prickly distinction that there must be a SPACE after the target's endquote, and preceding -new
