Default <noob alert>dumb question about importing bpm-time signatures settings via midi file

hello,

(complete reaper noob here.... so pls. bear with me....)

i have been using sx3 for quite a while now, and when i start a project file, i normally drag a midi (timing/tempo) file on to cubase first, and that sets all the bpm and time signatures for the project... i then import the wav files and begin my work as a mix AE...

so how do i do that on reaper??... when i drag the midi timing file on to reaper, the project file details have not changed... Is there some way i can import a midi file and set bpm, time signatures etc on reaper project file... ??

thank you very much....

kind regards,

yes.

now oddly, iirc when you drag a midi file into reaper it should ask you if you want to use the tempo information.

Perhaps that only occurs if you use reaper's built in media explorer: Browse to the midi file, right click and import.

you may have to adjust some prefs.

welcome to the wonderful world of Reaper!

Thanks for the reply.... i just gave it a quick try and unfortunately i did not get a prompt " import " on the media browser... instead i had insert to track, etc ...

i have enclosed a picture of reaper.... as u can see on the top bar the correct timing has been accepted by reaper.. however on the project file it says 120 .... now i have no idea if that matters...

(i've been stuck with cubase for quite some time so its a little hard to get my head around this... )

cheers...

yes... that is merely the default project tempo setting. that is over ridden by the tempo markers.

the real testis this: when you mash play, does it sound right?
Reaper should behave correctly... this si the fruit of a major update several months ago.

you image looks good.

you may want to consider changing Time in that image to Beats length... etc. the setting you have now will not have your midi items respond properly to tempo changes.

*edit: I am away from my DAW right now so the beats/length thing is not accurately described but here:
