Thanks - actually a little further digging revealed that it's the "edit bg" box that counts here. Set that to white and you'll get what I get. But I entirely understand that you may not want what I've got! This whole colours thing is indeed another cross for the weary documentor to carry!

Did you put it in your main Reaper folder? I believe that's where it has to be located.

No luck in or out of the Reaper main folder...though it may just be the machine I'm using here at work. I'll try again once I get home.

I just checked and, yes, it's to be placed in the main Reaper directory.

Malcolm, since there probably will be many more updates of the manual: why not give them some sort of version numbers (or dates), so that users can easily check if they indeed have the current manual?
Just an idea.

Hi Alex,
The easiest way to check that you have the latest version is to check the date of my last "update" post in this thread. FWIW, I include the date of publication at the bottom of the "About this manual" page in each edition - e.g. the latest version is v09072006. That said, the concepts in the Help should remain relatively constant between versions, even though the GUI and some of the implementations may change.

My my, Yes indeedy, Oh Boy...can't thank you enuff!
I've been looking for this through just about all the updates, I previously downloaded Pipeline's little video tutorials and with all that Reaper has go'n on I can use all the "Help" I can get. I've been play'n with this App long enough now I should be able to drive it but with so much happening so fast it's kinda hard keep'n your hands on the wheel, never mind watch'n where Yer go'n. This is da "Stuff" dat keeps you "Young!" Thanx again an We'll leave da light on for Ya....

1.03MB - now bigger than REAPER itself!

Can't check it out at the moment, Malcolm, due to pressure of studio rebuild (and consequent backed-up client tasks!) but I look forward probably learning something and admiring everything before long!

Beginner's Comment
Hi,
I'm one of several blind musicians trying out Reaper as an accessible multitracker.
For years the only other multitracker that blind musicians can use has been Cakewalk Sonar, but Reaper recordings sound, to me, more pro-quality than Sonar's, easily the equal of Cubase, or Logic.
I appreciate your great documentation, your not locking up .pdf files so they can't be accessed with screenreading software, and offering the .chm manual that can be read either inside or outside Reaper.
I hope this isn't the wrong place to post a request for one tiny addition to Reaper's keyboard shortcuts.
Navigating around Reaper is way easier for blind users by using the arrow keys.
There's an option in PREFERENCES to choose spacebar, enter and the arrow keys for either playback or navigation.
It would be such a blessing to have a keyboard hotkey to toggle either navigation or playback mode for the arrow key group.
Any currently unused function or letter key would do fine.
If this isn't the right place to post requests for additions to Reaper, please excuse my inexperience with the forum.
Zim

Updates today:
- Completely rewrote entire "REAPER Preferences" section
- Added "Additional Help" topic
- Updated Keyboard Shortcuts
If you only read one section of the Manual, make it the "REAPER Preferences" section. There are so many useful functions and features hidden away in the Preferences.
Cheers,
Malcolm.
This update brought to you by the phrase "Backup Often, Backup NOW", and the Microsoft error message "c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file)".

I bet that's taken some work!
Apart from the prefs, the other area very well worth studying is the keyboard shortcuts list, which also reveals the scope of the program, and a few things you might not know were in there.

Shortcuts Don't Work
Malcolm - You're doing a grand job for sure!
Have you any idea how bad it is that a lot of the Reaper shortcuts do not work in Europe?
I wish this could be fixed soon!

Hi Martin,
I feel your pain - my most-used Keyboard Shortcut is Alt+Shift+S, which would be remapped to "X" in a flash if we had custom Keyboard Shortcuts.
I know it's on Justin's "to-do" list, but I have no idea of the timeframe for this feature. In the meantime I'm using Art's utilities.
Cheers,
Malcolm.

Can't download manual - Arrgh!!
Just tried to download the latest version of the manual. 'Overwrite existing file?' asked the nice program, 'yes', I responded. '404' came back the response and wiped my manual. Can somebody fix this ? Pretty please !!!!
EDIT: You've renamed it haven't you (he says, reading your earlier message properly). The download link is trying to download the old file though so it needs changing.

Hi dhj,
Not sure what's going on here, I just tried the link for the CHM it worked fine for me. Perhaps your browser has cached the link for the old file? Try forcing a refresh on your browser then try the link again.
Cheers,
Malcolm.

I just fixed the link a couple of hours ago, malcolm, after reading this, so that's probably why.. it used to link to /REAPER_User_Guide.chm instead of just /User_Guide.chm ..

Which link?
It sounds like you're trying to download the online version, instead of the CHM ...

In that case you're trying to download the Online Manual.
Go to this link to download the CHM file:
http://documentwrite.com/reaper/chm/User_Manual.chm
then save that file to the REAPER directory on your machine.
Cheers,
Malcolm.
