Default Metronome: Count-in Before Recording vs. Pre-Roll

Hello. When using the metronome, what is the difference between "Count-in before recording" and "Pre-roll"?

Thanks.

Count in counts in with metronome and then starts recording, from a standstill so to speak. Pre-roll will play as many bars of material as you specify before recording, meaning the transport is already moving when recording actually starts. They can be combined.

This is a thing I first didn't understand. So, if you have both options checked, then a for example 2 bars pre-roll will be added to a 2 bars count-in. And I wondered why I have to wait 4 bars until the record begins

Thank you Sibben for your helpful reply.

I find a metronome count-in helpful when recording myself. I'm not sure how much use I will have for Pre Roll, but I'll play around with it and try it out.

I find its main use is for punch in recordings. That is when you want to re-record over parts of an existing recording. It’s usually helpful then to pre-roll and play or sing along so you’re right on when recording starts.
