PDC Doesn't Add Up
Hello, I am having a problem with PDC times not adding up.
Whenever I have 2 plugins that both have small latency amounts the PDC will become double my buffer size even when the latency amounts are still much less than my initial buffer size.
For example:
I'm using a MOTU LP32 interface at 128 buffer size with 48k sample rate.
I have a channel that has the Softube Console 1 plugin (4 samples latency) and the Performance Meter tells me that track has a PDC of 128 when I'm playing or recording.
I then add the Soundtoys Echoboy plugin which has 32 samples of latency and then the PDC jumps up all the way to 256.
These latency amounts together should be 36 samples, not 256 samples.
I can then add one more plugin (Decapitator that has 62 samples of latency) and it jumps all the way to 384 PDC.
Why is this happening?
This happens with any plugins that have non-zero latency (not just Console 1).
This causes unacceptable latency for live tracking with the Console 1 and any other plugin that has even a tiny amount of latency.
Why does the PDC not calculate correctly?
Thank you!

The effective latency per-plugin is always a multiple of the block size. That adds up quickly.

There is an option to disable the PDC for each plugin instance. You could also add back the total latency of the chain in a single plugin using Time Adjustment Delay if you need the delay compensation.

Disabling PDC (right click the FX routing button> PDC> Disable) doesn't change the latency you hear when recording. It disables the usually desired compensation for playback.

Slightly OT, but have you guys seen any a list of pdc for every plugin anywhere, or only by track? I was trying to track down which had the highest the other day but I still had to go through the fx chain of every track.
I still struggle to wrap my head around how PDC works after 10 years mucking around with it...

This is definitely not great (especially with trying to use Console 1 for live tracking). Has Justin or anyone ever said that this behavior is absolutely necessary or is this something that can be fixed?

You can disable PDC for live tracking. You will just need to make the timing adjustments yourself afterward.

It can be improved:

Sort of, view>performance meter, sort by pdc. That at least tells you which tracks you need to look at.

Yea, that doesn't help much if all the tracks are showing the same PDC tho. It seems strange there's no way to list plugins by PDC usage anywhere.
