Default Unbearable high CPU when using folders

Hi!

I've been having issues with high CPU usage for a while. Today I tried taking all my tracks out of their respective nested folders and the stuttering completely disappeared. This was without any FX at all on any track or folder.

Is this intended behaviour or a bug? Is there any other way of easily sorting tracks visually?

Yes!

Here's my template. There's no audio tracks, but it still causes Reaper to basically hang if I unmute the top folders.

I forgot to mention in the first post, but the problem is mostly in 96kHz. If I go down to 44.1kHz the RT CPU hovers around 60-65%, but if I go back up it gets to over 300%. The FX CPU only gets to roughly the double, as you'd expect.

Also, I've tried changing audio drivers, retitling tracks without unicode, removing sends and removing FX. The only thing that worked is either muting or extracting tracks from their folders. Even having them just one folder deep raises the CPU by quite a lot.

Thanks.

I don't have 90% of the plugins so I didn't see much cpu load on this, or difference with and without folders.

there are some concerning things in the template, (not cpu related)

- master mono button engaged

- some tracks in latch auto mode, even master track

possibly a factor in the cpu load

- the sample rate in the project is not set. Good idea to set that so it loads with everything running at 44.1kHz or 96kHz from the start. who knows how well each of the 700+ fx handle switching sample rates
- in a 96kHz project you might want to turn off any oversampling settings in fx.

Thank you for your effort, but I really don't think the FX play any role this. I still have the same CPU load even after removing all the FX on all the tracks.

Another thing I tried since last time was to reset the configuration to factory default, but that didn't help either.

I don't think it's just folders.

I've got a project here with 100 tracks with 5x reaxcomp on each.

total cpu during play is 18%, RT cpu 5%

same thing in another project tab but every 10th track is a folder.

total cpu is slightly higher, rt cpu slightly lower. +/- 2%
