I hear ya'
And from my perspective, I'm beginning to get a visceral feel for the issues you were juggling with more than one Zone per file, more that one file per Zone, etc.
Methinks for a first pass, the learn functionality will work with only one file at a time.
The file can contain as many Zones as you want.
Included Zones must be in the same file as the enclosing Zone.
I think I can build something under those constraints, maybe
Any thoughts to get me going on the right road based on your experience more than welcomed !
As is often said "The fact that there's a Stairway To Heaven and a Highway To Hell tells you a lot about the anticipated traffic patterns"

ROFL ..although for Jimmy and Robert these days, it's more likely a 'Stairlift To Heaven'

This was the conclusion I eventually arrived at, one file containing multiple Zones. The multi-file thing has certain advantages from an organisation point of view and it keeps the Configurator nice and compact, but beyond that it's a PITA. Don't waste your time going round in circles trying to get it to work like I did

I like your configurator MixMonkey, it's very handy.
I've just had my first "ah for f%%k sake" moment with OSC and Touch OSC Editor in particular.
Had layout complete with all knows and button to mat h the C4, THEN tested it only to find I'd the orientation wrong and it displays all wrong.
Fun times.....

What device are you using? I just worked with Hexler on a similar issue with a Samsung Galaxy View and they pointed me to an option in the client called "Fix Rotation". Not all Android devices and not all versions of the OS report screen orientation correctly. Create a copy of your layout and experiment with it before changing the whole thing around.
Hope this helps,
Ken

Any Ideas on who to make modifiers work on OSC? As buttons on Screen.
(I KNOW what is it with me and these Modifiers lol)
I've a C4emu more or less complete, might need a few tweaks here and there.
I've got the banks working as GoZone like on the real surface, but can't seem to figure out the modifiers.
I've added a pix of my progress for anyone that's interested.

For the modifiers you want to use Control not PressOnly, because you want to get the release message.

I have them as Control but nothing being affected,
I tried them (in OSC Editor) as Buttons, then a Toggles.
But Nothing has worked yet?
I was also hoping to see the DisplayUpper change when shift was pressed, (like it does on real Surface)

Hmmm....
Turn on OSC in Monitor you should get a 1 on press and a 0 on release.

IN -> C4emu /Shift 1.000000

IN -> C4emu /Option 1.000000
IN -> C4emu /Option 0.000000

IN -> C4emu /Control 0.000000
IN -> C4emu /Alt 1.000000
IN -> C4emu /Alt 0.000000
That's on toggle / off toggle for each mod.
(I also had a bit of bad spelling in one of my GoZones shift+ instead of Shift+ the Rotary and Display were going crazy. so the Shift+are all in the FX Zone.
FOUND IT my Bad
I hadn't the mods defined in the main zone file,
(just when you think you've got all your ducks in a row...)

hey everyone, did I hear correctly (a long time ago I think) that we could combine actions to a button? If so, how's that done?

Just assign the same button to two or more actions.

I'm hoping to use this technique on a few things, but I can't get the parameters to "shift". I can get the display, but that's it. Using the numbers from the C4 config and manually adding to the zon file. Is there another trick to this now?

Cool CSI is a pretty deep pool.
I try to make the workflow as intuitive (to me) as possible, so things work as I expect them to. Needs less thought that way

You also need the modifiers defined in your home zone (as I for got last night)
Quote:
Shift Shift
Option Option
Control Control
Alt Alt
|
And make sure they are defined properly in your surface .mst or .ost
ALSO Shift and shift are NOT the same, things can get very crazy with that one. lol
I now have C4 and C4emu (OSC on Tablet) up and running with mod keys and display changing.

Definitely check this, as the C4 .mst had errors.
These are the correct definitions:
Code:
Widget Shift
PressRelease 90 0d 7f 90 0d 00
WidgetEnd
Widget Option
PressRelease 90 0e 7f 90 0e 00
WidgetEnd
Widget Control
PressRelease 90 0f 7f 90 0f 00
WidgetEnd
Widget Alt
PressRelease 90 10 7f 90 10 00

Yes all of that is working. Here's what I have for example below. The Names will display but params don't and the control does nothing. Shift works well on the C4 or the ProX:
DisplayUpperC8 FXParamNameDisplay 6 "GAIN-"
DisplayLowerC8 FXParamValueDisplay 6
RotaryC8 FXParam 6
/ Toggle+RotaryPushC8 FXParam
Shift+DisplayUpperC8 FXParamNameDisplay 7 "MIX-"
Shift+DisplayLowerC8 FXParamValueDisplay 7
Shift+RotaryC8 FXParam 7
/ Shift+Toggle+RotaryPushC8 FXParam

New EXPERIMENTAL build is up.
There is a new Action:
Code:
someButton ToggleLearnMode
Map it to a button, and press it.
You should see a Window.
Whatever way you have yourself set up -- get an FX window up and selected.
Move a Control on the Surface.
Let me know what you see in the Window.
Can you still interact normally with Reaper (Window is not modal) ?
Need to check as many OS versions as possible.
Thanks.

Whoa dude! Whoa!
Ok, when I open and toggle, it shows a big screen with lots of stuff. When I move something, it shows up in a list selected. That's as far as I got...
Ahem, for the record I do recall mentioning something like this and it being nay'd. Honestly, this was exactly what I was envisioning, so thank you. I don't know what it does but I have an idea and it's awesome. Please continue!

Also, the last 2 builds I didn't get anything in the ZoneRawFXfiles for the configurator I have. Maybe that's moot now with this new UI? I'm having to use the one from 8/29 to get the rawFXfile.

Yes, you and others have brought it up -- timing wasn't there yet.
Didn't want to commit to something undeliverable.
OSC turned out to be easier - thus far anyway -- than anticipated.
Most importantly, can you still use Reaper normally, do all controls, mouse clicks, etc., still work as usual ?
In other words does having the Learn Window show affect interaction with Reaper in any way ?

Hmmm...
Just tested with the latest and it worked fine here -- well, after I made sure to remember to Check monitor FX params
You should see ReaConsole output the names and step sizes (good for OSC).
You should also see a file in CSI/Zones/ZoneRawFXFiles.
Let me know if this works.

It looks pretty good at the moment
Will we be able to use it to create FX Zone files 'offline' ie away from the surfaces, on a laptop, say?

That's my thoughts on the OSC C4emu, It's allowing me to check FX.zon files at home away from the surfaces.
So far it's working well,
Looking forward to trying out learn.

OSC turned out to be easier - thus far anyway -- than anticipated.
Most importantly, can you still use Reaper normally, do all controls, mouse clicks, etc., still work as usual ?
In other words does having the Learn Window show affect interaction with Reaper in any way ?

ha...indeed, was just giving you a hard time. It's really really more than anyone could have imagined.
Anywho, no can't do anything in Reaper. Not the plugin, not any single thing. However, I can use the surface for actions, everything works only on the surface though

This is a great way to test away from the surface.
When you are happy with your C4emu.touchosc, can you send it, I'll include it

You should see ReaConsole output the names and step sizes (good for OSC).
You should also see a file in CSI/Zones/ZoneRawFXFiles.
Let me know if this works.

Yup! Thank you!

New build is up.
WARNING BREAKING BUILD
Taking this opportunity to finally fix some terrible nomenclature -- see example files for pattern
Basically the new ones are:
Code:
FocusedFXNavigator
ToggleMapSelectedTrackSends
ToggleMapSelectedTrackFX
ToggleMapSelectedTrackFXMenu
ToggleMapFocusedFX
MapSelectedTrackSendsToWidgets
MapSelectedTrackFXToWidgets
MapSelectedTrackFXToMenu
MapFocusedFXToWidgets
Also, a bit further down the learning road, you should see some more things come to life in the learning Window as you move controls...
