Default Worst sounding plugin ever

Introducing the horrifier:

http://spacelabstudio.com/js/horrifier

Got the idea from ZV pedal. Forget the name. Induces crossover distortion. Dead easy and quick. Attacks a completely different part of the waveform than most distortions. Sounds terrible.

I tried it on a beautiful recording of a cat having it's tail cut off with a chainsaw, and it completely ruined it. Came out sounding like Karen Carpenter. A truly diabolical, fiendish, nasty plugin

*hehe*

I also made a quick 'before and after'-demonstration of the plugin...

before:

http://www.colourofmusic.com/mp3/an_...wie_diesem.mp3

after:

http://www.colourofmusic.com/mp3/an_...m-orrified.mp3

(four instances -I just slapped it on everything - however I disabled it for the bass in the intro and for the drums in the main part)

Updated! You now have a choice between the classic "terrible" mode and the brand new "awful" mode. In awful mode the level of horrendousness is proportional to the level of your input, making it easier to dial in just the right amount of horror.

As an added bonus, if you're in awful mode and you have a track with four or more channels on it, you can switch the envelope detector over to channels 3 and 4, allowing for sidechaining. You could use this, for example, to cause a kick drum to club your bass track like a baby seal. This is not at all recommended.

chris

PS The "before" track was one of my favorite bands, Old Time Relijun, from their unfortunately out of print first release, 'Songbook vol 1.' They're from up in the pacific northwest somewhere. The "after" track was . . . . well, obviously it was the same track. Just ran through the horrifier!

I just ran two instances in series. One set to classic terrible mode, the other to modern awful. Wow! The result was absolutely fricking UNSPEAKABLY SICK-MAKINGLY GHASTLY. In fact, it was terribly awful. My carefully crafted punk-metal--death-grunge-thrash-horror-doom track instantly sounded like Lithuania's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest! Next, I'm gonna try four instances, to see if it'll sound like CLIFF RICHARD

This is awesome! Intense distortion, and appears to work as a sidechain gate.

Seems to get it to sidechain I had to switch to awful, set envelope source to 3/4, then switch to terrible, and even thought it said 1/2 it was definitely sidechaining now. Thanks!

Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

I suspect your brain is playing tricks on you, though. Sidechain can't work in terrible mode. The envelope drop down forces 1/2 when in terrible mode to prevent user from thinking they are sidechaining when they actually aren't.

Yeah I noticed one mode is 1/2 input only, then one mode allowed for 3/4.

At any rate, I think it really sounds good.

From the before/after clips, this does indeed sound like (part of) the ZV Fuzz-factory pedal. Massive coolness.

So how do I get ME some of this awfullness? I clicked on Spacelab's link, above, but only see text gibberish. Do I need to know some programmers' secret handshake or something?
-------

Bebop, where can I get me a copy of that cat having it's tail cut off with a chainsaw clip? (too funny....) I'm designing a new digital burglar-alarm, and this would be most useful!

What you see is the Jesusonic code, copy it, then paste it into a text file, like w/notepad.

Name it, like horrifier.txt, then delete the .txt, and put it in one of the Jesusonic folders or make a new folder in there.

It's a really good effect.

Don't even have to do this. It'll work with the txt still appended!

That'll work but it's a little more complicated than necessary. Just right click on the link in the first post, select "Save As..." navigate to c:\Program Files\Reaper\Effects (or where ever the equivalent folder is on your system) and save it there. Done.

As an extra step, I suppose you could create a subfolder under Effects and put it in there to help keep things organized.

The ZV effect referenced is not the fuzz pedal.

Maybe not, but the F-F has this sound in it.

It's an insane little pedal. Oh how I love it so....
