VST Disappeared
I had multiple folders on my C: drive containing various VST plugins and decided to condense them down to only one folder, and ever since then, only a couple of the VSTs are somehow "missing," even though they are in the same folder as the rest (which loaded perfectly fine.) I have gone to preferences and removed all folders, added the folder containing the VSTs, cleared the cache, closed Reaper, opened Reaper, re-scanned, and nothing can seem to get Reaper to realize it's there. I have even copied the VST into different folders and added those folders in preferences, but still nothing happened. This is very frustrating because it was working before, and I haven't deleted anything. I moved all the files from other folders into one central folder, and now all my VSTs work except for two. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

are they just plain .dll files? Not plugins that require a particular install routine?

Yes, they're all just regular .dll files. That's what is so confusing, it should have worked just fine.

Me too
I'm thinking about trying this very same thing. I've got VST plug-ins all over the place. I cant nor can Reaper even find my EZDrummer at the moment. Any does or dont's I should know of or be aware of before I attempt to condense these files, folders?

if they are just simple .dll files then it's ok to move them.
don't move them (unless you know what you are doing / have done some research on the specific plugin) if -
They are not simply .dll files
they have associated or dependent files / folders (in other locations)
They are copy-protected
etc.

Thank you, I just found and added another string for the drummer in the VST scan. That will keep me working for now. I will do a bit more looking around and reading before going much further. Maybe just move one at a time to see what happens. Thanks again for the help!

Missing VST:Midi Guitar 2
I recently lost some VSTs after resetting Reaper to factory default.
I was able to put most of them back but the Midi Guitar 2.I have tried setting the path and clean cache/Rescan and nothing. Maybe I have the wrong files? Should they be .dll files or some other?
Thanks for any help,
Rob

I am going thru the same heartache.
My VST are all over the place and I have to do a manual search for them everytime I work something now..UGH!!!
Is there a tutorial SOMEWHERE so a newbie would understand what REAPER needs to load VSTs,VST2,VST3,VSTi quickly???
Any help appreciatted.

Reaper just needs them to have their paths referenced in preferences / plugins / VST (though specific plugins may have different requirements depending on manufacturer, file dependencies etc.)

When you say "I can put them in manually" are you talking about adding their locations to your location list in Options/prefs/plugins/vst?
