Default Need help in creating FX for vocals

Hallo, I'm very new in using reaper. I am searching for an effect, which can push up the volume of a singers voice.

With my "normal" mixing-console, I use a little bit of delay, to give more volume to the singers voice.

Unfortunately I didn't found such effect in reaper. Perhaps it's the reasult of my bad english, that I didn't found the right one.

Please, can someone tell me the FX and the parameter settings to let a mouse singing like a lion ;-)

Thank you.

Have you tried the Jesusonic effects? You should be able to find just about anything you need in there.

Sounds as if you need to:

1) Increase your Record input level

2) Slap a compressor on your audio track - eg. ReaComp.

Thank you for your ideas.

Yes, I tried dte Jesusonic Effects, but I didn't found the right effect/parameter combination. So I hoped, thet someone in the forum can give tzhe right one.

Perhaps I'll try the compressoer-method.

If you want a mouse to sing like a lion - first right click on the track, go to "item processing" and select "normalize selected items" - this will bring the highest peaks up to 0dB - you may have to lower the track's gain a bit after doing this by clicking near the top of the waveform and draging down (you'll know you have it when the cursor turns into an double sided arrow)

Then, insert reacomp into the FX list, and try this out (in the picture below) - Then lower the threshold until you get about 10dB of gain reduction ... you can also raise the gain of the "wet" slider to boost volume *After* compression.

Search around for the presets - there are some for reacomp and reafir among others.

As far as delay, there are lots of jesusonic delays.

also read the online manual for (better) tips and tricks

I don't have a lot of hands on with vocals but what I have learned is if you have more than one take, layering them really thickens the voice. Not a new trick but one I stumbled on by accident when I opened up a project which had 4 or more identical vocal takes. Of course they're not really the same but that makes for some natural chorus.

well.. depending on the recording level of your vocal track, you might consider turning everything else down.

Thank you. I'll first try "reacom" with the settings given by RedStone.

Perhaps some sort of exciter plugin, like BBE Sonic Maximizer? Also make sure there's a good amount of pre-delay on any reverb you use, so the main vocal doesn't get muddied.
