Default voice leveler

Just tried the trial one knob voice leveler from acusonus and it works a treat.
At $59 I just cant afford it and wondered if there was a free one knob type of thing that does the same?

The adhd one has too many knobs to my mind .. lol

Grateful for any suggestions.

It's two knobs but you can also use it for a lot of other things. Very straightforward.

Or you can try some maximizers like LoudMax or Maxwell Smart, which barely need to be touched to work.

The TriLeveler 2 from Sonic Anomaly is pretty good.

What sort of voice are you leveling? Is it spoken word, like a podcast? Or singing?

What kind of track? Spoken or song vocal? Just curious...

What I posted in collab last night which was the lead vocal - Vola is designed as a vocal leveler IIRC. I have several others, and never got around to using Vola and it crossed my mind last night and it damn well worked for my needs.

I use Eugen2777's Envelope-Based Compressor https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=181934
WWV (Works wonders on vocals).

And in this post https://forum.cockos.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=148 I show how to mod the script to make itr dockable, which further improves its usefulness.

You guys are gonna make me check these out. I tried the Vocal Rider a couple years ago. I thought it was cool. It seemed like it could be used to be invisible. But I never got to spend a lot of time with it.
If there is some free options that are close, I have to try it. Gonna give these all a go. Some singers are all over the place!

Mic Technique? Can't you just fix that in the mix?

I have vocal rider and it just seems more fiddly to me, I tried Vola for the first time and it literally was a matter of just tossing it on the track - I need to try it more to be sure but it was damn impressive.

I just use ReaComp for this. PreComp at 250, RMS at 500, Attack and Release at 0. Set knee somewhere between -6 and -12. Then adjust threshold and ratio til you get what you need. All the other parameters can stay default, though you might want to tick the Auto Makeup box. If you were always doing the same types of things, you'd probably come up with a ratio number that works most of the time. Then it really is just the threshold to worry about. Save it as a preset, move threshold to match your material and get the squish you want.

Download VOLA2. It'll perfectly level anything you throw at it and it's free.

FWIW, Voice Leveler was just on sale fo $9 at Plugin Boutique in October, which doesn't help now. But if it happened once, it may well be heavily discounted again.

Do you mean the Vola 2 Or Vola 1? It seems a couple folks like the Vola 2. I am gonna try one of these this week. Probably the Vola 2?

I hope it is transparent. It seems so many get so squishy or sound cold. Then I am better of just adjusting manually and using a normal compression.

If I can level vox better and faster with a Vola 2, I should try it.

Now that is a cheeky and offensive assumption - but you meant that as a joke right?

After many years of doing jobs I like but with shit pensions I am retired and have to watch the pennies. My budget includes buying Reaper every couple of years which I have done for a good few years now.

Not been able to test suggestions yet but will post again when I have.

I didn't link to VOLA2 because I couldn't find it offhand and the website is gone.

Wasn't the package in the stash somewhere?. (Including the awesome Bass Professor too I think.)

<edit> Nice, it's still on the Wayback Machine and the download links work too: https://web.archive.org/web/20190520...ma.net/plugins

I still think it's in the stash but I'm not a stashmeister.

I duplicated a track of my vocals and tried all the ones listed here. This duplicate track sat alongside the original with the acusonus voice leveler on it. I have to say, I am not a vocalist by any means and my singing voice has limited range and wobbles a bit. It also changes a lot.

The one that came out closest to the acusonus with a minimum of twiddling was the vola2 so I will probably stick with that - just needed (to my ears) a little EQing.

Apart from the sound, the other thing I liked about the acusonus was that it had a small, live illustration of the waveform, illustrating where it had changed the level - black for original and yellow for change, but that would not tempt me to pay $59 as opposed to $zero.

Once again, the forum members here have given good suggestions and advice, many, many thanks

just saw Acusonus voice leveler and de-esser are available free via Bedroom Producers Blog with a bundle of video stuff. You can get them and serials separately.

Another BIG VOTE for Vola2!!!

Wow, Vola2 is hands down the quickest and easiest vocal rider / leveler i have ever used. The 64 bit though kept crashing my Reaper program but the 32bit worked flawlessly!

Right out of the box about all you need to do is slide to the left the "Push Down" slider and get instant results, it sounds nicely transparent to me, I don't hear the slight pumping of loudness I have noticed with some other riders.

If you want to hear right away what a vocal rider can do with practically no set up or adjustment, the Vola2 is the one to try!

Well, that sounds like copy for a commercial , but I am not affiliated with Vola2, just a hugely satisfied user...AND IT'S FREE!

I got Voice Leveler for free with the purchase of another plugin. I think it was one of the Exponential Audio multi-effects for $9.99

If you're patient, these things come on sale regularly.

I use tri-leveler. I tried Vola, I forget which version but I could hear artifacts on the vocals and so I did not use it

I'm receiving an already-recorded podcast episode from the client. So I'm not in control of the recording process. All I can do is suggest things to them.
