Default choosing midi protocols with reaper preferences? (wdm, kernel streaming, mme etc)

Hey,

I was just wondering if there was a way to access a specific setting per device in reaper. I have a lot of midi devices connected to my computer and they work best (lowest latency and jitter) with different protocols. There seems to be no transparency as to how reaper is accessing the midi devices (through what drivers) in the operating system (in my case windows. I don't know how it works on OS X).

I'm wondering if there is something that I've missed.

For example...Renoise shows in brackets how it's accessing the midi device:

I would really like the same ability to choose within reaper or atleast understand how reaper chooses this!

(also understanding which timestamping is best for my hardware in reaper does my head in..but that's a whole other story. and will take some testing)

I'm a bit obessive about this stuff..but it's VERY important to me.

First time I ever heard (or experienced) there are different MIDI protocols. I thought MIDI was the protocol itself.

V'ger's right.
Are you confusing drivers with MIDI?
For instance Windows Driver Model (WDM) is part of your Operating System (XP?)
Kernel Streaming is down to whoever wrote the driver(s) for your hardware.
As far as I'm aware these, and MME, have all been dropped by MicroSoft.

sorry..i guess protocol is a confusing word.

is there anyway to know which midi driver is reaper is accessing for a specific piece of hardware/midi port etc?
