Great atmosphere and subtle suspense, Justin. Very nice. The vocals I'd love to hear on this one are those of Will Oldham (Palace Music / Bonnie Prince Billy). Give him a call and if he says yes he'll get REAPER for free!
Do you know Bedhead, nowadays The New Year? Strong minimalism, I think you might like it. See a video of them playing 'Disease' at their site: http://www.thenewyear.net/diseasemov.html

yep.....ATMOSPHERE...EVOCATIVE...
v nice.
i was thinking of a picture of twlight or dawn just as the sun is rising...
and one is driving a porsche along one of those windy roads full of esses...you find in the states back roads......
a guy just back from a bad experience....
(wish i could afford a porsche.)
some lyrics came to mind totally off the cuff...."J"
while posting...

i'm driving in this car,
along the bayou, breathing fire..
cant get over that love affair,
shes gone , i dont care..

ive cried just too many tears,
along this road that lasts for years...
maybe one day we'll meet again,
when ive lost all this pain...

untill then i'll follow the dawn,
far better than being her pawn,...
i never could be number two,
suffering in silence,....
could you ?? (<<<screaming this line....)

etc etc...just some off the cuff lyrics...
done in 2 secs flat.
nice "J"

here's my little mixdown of it:

http://www.blorp.com/music/Songs/060...anning1vox.mp3

I EQ'd the vox with reafir, and shortened the whole thing, other than that, not much else..

thnks "J" and fluffy...
but you chaps are being way way too kind.
i KNOW when i screwed up.
i'm pretty tuff on myself...lol.
i can do a way way better vocal than that ..its just a scratch vox.
just one quick takes.

my "thing" has always been to try and see what i can do useing my voice to create different vocal styles...
ie..metal vox on one song, country on another, crooner mor on another, "evil".. lol on another.
etc etc...i didnt come close to what i believe this song needs.

i thought of useing reafir..but had no time to do eq analysis...etc.
so i slapped a bit of JS quickly in one second..in a vain attempt to cover my screw up
in overloading mic pre.
also...the vocal inflections/vocal style i wanted much better to do justice to the music.
i screwed up the scream as well....its "off".

if i get time this week...
i'll have another bash to see if i can sing it the way i hear the vox style in my mind.
and really spend several hours with it...rather than a few minutes or so. peace.

"J"....
i had an idea on this song which i think might kik it up a notch.....before the last verse starts (verse three..until then i'll follow the dawn etc)...is there any way the music background could change key ??
its an old arrangement trik to keep listener interest.
ie....kik the music of the song for example up a semitone.
just an idea. then (hopefully...lol)...i'll have a bash at better vocals.
thus after verse 2...let the music go in the normal key for two bars then music changes key for two bars (up a semitone for rest of song with the third verse coming in after the two bars of key change.
prob was last night dog wants treats, cat wants strokes,
friends got pc probs, phones going etc etc...
so i have to get "quite time" to do this music justice.

ps....just an idea for ssong name...
"Love pain in the bayou"....or such like.
(its got that southern bayou feel to it.)
i also amended the lyrics i wrote further up.

Hey - at the start of 060823, there's this little hiccup - I've got that before, but assumed it was something stupid I was doing, or something with the Classic Compressor. Anyone know why it's there? I've heard it in other tracks made in other software... it's a well known phenomenon?

As for the piece - not that it's mine, but my vote's against a key change - I quite like the rumbling, mumbling feel to it. This guy's heart's in pieces - I don't think he cares a lot about key changes...

Nice song, cool atmosphere.
I don't think a key change is needed neither.

Manning, you can sing anything or what?
Maybe you'd like to try out some short, rough ideas I have on my HDD's and which are going to waste otherwise?

Hey Justin, your sound is really crystal clear, what's your signal chain?

Cheers
Raphael
