Hey Van... here is where I've gone with this now, ...all thanks to your
video....

Quote:
Custom action name: INSERT 1/2 Note at Mouse
Grid: Set to 1/2 preserving grid type
Edit: Insert note at mouse cursor
Grid: Set to 1/4 preserving grid type
NOTES:
I make these for all note sizes from 1/128 to 2/1 [double wide whole note]
Just pick the actions for each note size accordingly
I take 1/4 grid as my 'default' but you might want something other like 1/8
...whatever is your 'default' grid size make the last action to be that
The point is that after running the insert note custom action, you grid gets
returned to your own default size.
I use the num key pad for the key commands like so:
1 = whole note
2 = half note
4 = quater note
8 = eight note
6 = sixteenth note
3 = thirtysecond note
7 = sixtyfourth note
9 = one hundred twenty eigth note
5 = double wide whole note
0 = just insert note at current grid settings
You do have to pay mind to the type of grid you
have active... straight, dotted, triplet, swing
You set that in the midi editor at the bottom...
And you could put those grid choices on a toolbar if desired...
Of course you can change the key commands to suit yourself.
My intention is to keep it simple and have easy to reach keys
without any modifier keys.
I could upload my set to the stash but it's really very easy to
create your own and mine might over ride other key commands that
you already have....
My thanks to Vanhaze for the inspiration to set this up!

Comment: It's too bad [shameful really] that the Inline MIDI Editor actions are so limited compared to the full MIDI Ed.
Still, along with a toolbar for grid size and type settings I have for the arrange window, where I can set the grid to
anything, and by keeping the Insert note at mouse cursor with the same key command [num pad 0] I can get useful results
in the Inline Editor as well... it just takes a few more clk's do deal with the grid changes... oh well.
