Default FL Studio 10

I have found FL Studio 10 to be excellent for MIDI, especially drum tracks. The step editor and piano roll work really well. I have switched a lot of my work to FLS, but I'm mostly MIDI based. I lay down the MIDI parts and record woodwinds, guitar and vox over the MIDI tracks.

I would not record a band (and perhaps audio in general) with FL Studio - you would want to use Reaper. For me, FLS and Reaper are the perfect pair. They have similar license arrangements, you can install both on multiple PC's and have a ton of free upgrades.

I haven't used FL in years but midi is certainly a strong point.

@cockos: There is really no reason NOT to up the anti on midi

Oh yeah, it's not full "x64" yet so it's not even installed here. I just got everything to be x64 so reaper gets the win there!

Same experience here. Although one major drawback of FL for MIDI work is that it does not support time signature changes. It's a feature users have been asking for years and years.

Come on – editing in Logic is so clunky. I don't want to use it (and don't actually), but Reaper's Midi is a PITA OTOH.

YMMV.

WYSIWYG.

Default what works for kids?

As Dea-man noted - the issue is interface. Software that forces users into software and OUT of their workflow is bad software. All bad software is ultimately learnable, but with cost.

Dea-man asked about FL10, and that is used in a youth center where I work with kids and they get productive on it really fast. It didn't seem to get in their way. They didn't like Reaper when I tried to show it to them, however.

They were not drummers, but they were creating beats and layers of beats.

OK been putting some serious time in with reapers MIDI editor, I can completely understand why people say it is rubbish now, it is very very basic and right now if you need heavy editing, look elsewhere, it really is as bad as people say
