Default i recorded a snap.. when panned, lowers in volume?

i recorded a snap,

i was wondering why does it lower a lot in volume when panned?

is this how it should be?

does panning left or right means that the sound will decrease in volume as well?

When panned to center, you get a 3 dB boost (because both speakers are playing it). Go to pan settings and set it to -3 dB, which will reduce that extra 3 dB so it has the same level regardless of panning.
