Default Monitors? Presonus Eris 5 ...

Presonus Eris 5

Does anyone use them, what have you compared them to and are they worth the money.

I was considering Yamaha HS8 but... large and price. I mean I could go there
but I like the idea of small, not so loud and portable.

I want some oof in the bass. and definition over db SPL's...

Ditching my old stereo: Marantz amp and Yamaha speakers, to get powered small monitors is my new thing.

So yes, help me out if you can.

The E5's are about $600 and the HS8 are $1500...

Thank you!

I truly considered them, but after research and reviews, wanted the JBL306 or 308 mk ii's.

Came very close to buying them, until I ran across a deal ($100) for some Roland DS-90's, which I've used for years, and which will probably last me until I'm cold and dead.

I know them well, and that's a good place to be.

Right on. Purchasing gear is such a pita. There are so many BS reviews of gear now, some are laughably nonsense. Will check out the Roland DS-90's. TY !

I have good results with passive Alesis Monitor One MK2.
They make active ones as well.
If you learn them, they translate.

Monitors are a critical element in your mixing chain - buy the best ones you can afford. I would recommend the Neumann KH120s.

If the measurements from the E5 XT are anything to go by, no.

Yes.

But if you don't want to spend that much, Kali, JBL, KRK, and Adam have some good options.

Actual proper measurements of all the important stuff! Amazing times we live in.

I purchased a Personus 1810c Audio Interface last year and was super pleased with it, sound quality, wise, so when I was looking to get more or different monitors I figured Person's was a "no brainer".

However, after reading all the reviews, I decided otherwise.

The Eris 5 are very good for the money and I use them since ~2-3 years. I want to replace them by the Genelec 8030, though.

The bass goes to ~60 Hz, so keep this in mind.

In that range I would seriously also consider one from the Kali line. I was definitely on a budget when I got the LP-6 a few years ago and am still happy with them. https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/kali-audio-lp-6 If I were looking at upgrading from those I might go with the LP-8 https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/kali-audio-in8 (they're now at Version 2 of both) or especially the newer IN-5 https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/kali-audio-5 or IN-8.
