I'm going to have a piano-music student who is a teenager with mild learning problems.
She already plays some piano, and is great with videogames.
She even has a powerful gaming PC.
I wonder if there's some free or cheap software like FL studio for PC, with some virtual instruments and a pattern maker.
In my country nobody wants to put their credit card to buy software, lol, the parents will not want to do it, so maybe I buy the license and charge the lessons a bit more.
Even better if it's free.
I'm aware of Hydrogen, maybe use that with some other standalone virtual piano-synth?
I think Reaper would be way too much for her.
Thanks, people! If it's not too much to ask... something that runs on Linux as well?
I really wanted LMMS to work, but it has only a kick and an ugly synth.
Maybe I've always been too idiot for that program, I don't know...
Anyway, I'm going to look into the recommended programs!
You could try Air Ignite. It comes free with M-Audio keyboards, and others like Alesis I think.
It's like a training wheels DAW,or junior DAW.
It cannot import plugin instruments. It's all about the internal sounds for virtual instruments.
As for Linux it's not designed for that. Whether it works under Wine?, who knows.
Roland Zenbeats did it! My student had fun, and it's free. I took my laptop to today's lesson and the software did a lot to show music math to someone who doesn't do math. I showed her a basic beat, then deleted it and let her put in some random stuff and play it.
It's very similar to the FL Studio thing, and sounds good.
I know it has been discontinued* but Orion (by Synapse Audio) was really great DAW\patter\VSTi\synth etc. software.
*Synapse Audio has discontinued Orion. It is no longer available for sale or download. So stated in their Forum post of July 1, 2016.
Orion v8.6 is the last version (×64 bit)

Oddly enough, they did not intend to even sell it to someone who would like to continue developing it. It was a good tool for those who could not afford Reason or FL Studio (or did not like it).
Alternatively you could try with Podium (by Zynewave) but it might be a bit too advanced for your client.
It's even cheaper than Reaper (only in terms of price).

I'm new here but I know what my friends use https://scan-score.com/en/ software. It is a good software with great features. Pretty intuitive tool. Few prons of this software:- both printed and digital music can be scanned- easy to edit score after scanning it- can export the data to other music programs.
