Default Raspberry Pi and Reaper - any experiences in here?

Hello all,

I'm just about to pull the trigger on purchasing Reaper for the first time and am going to pick up the new Raspberry Pi 4 that was released today in hopes of building a home recording studio around them. I won't be recording drums (that will be MIDI-only) and no more than three audio channels at once at the very most... will usually be one most of the time. I won't be doing electronic music or anything heavy on production.

I am wondering if anyone here has a similar setup and what their experiences have been with it.

Thank you all in advance.

I don't know but I seriously doubt that it's going to work.

You can probably make some kind of simple audio recorder and do some editing but I doubt it can run a full DAW.

I assume you going to run Linux? So, are you going to run the "experimental" Linux version of REAPER? I'm pretty sure you can't run WINE on a Raspberry Pi.

...And, I'm not sure why you'd want to "build a home studio" around it. I'd recommend a Windows PC or a Mac and if cost is the main issue I recommend a cheap (maybe used) PC "to start with".

Some people use successfully use Linux, but I'd only recommend that if you are already a "Linux guy". Many (most?) audio interfaces will work with Linux (using generic drivers) but the higher-end interfaces usually only come with Windows & OS X drivers and any special configuration or driver utilities will only work on these operating systems.

There is/was a version that will run on Pi3, have no idea about Pi4. Check the linux sub forum as I think Justin posted about it when it became available last year and I know of at least one person recording with it.

Thanks for the heads-up. I missed it. Info here:

What's exciting, for me, is that they've finally fixed the Gb Ethernet throughput problem. There's also a completely new window manager, Mesa:

https://mesa3d.org/

I think that will need a new Reaper version from Justin?

But the thing can drive 2 4Kp60 screens...

Let's start dreaming...

The webservers from the foundation have been replaced by Pi 4s...

I see no reason why a DAW wouldn't run on it. Maybe plugins can be a hurdle, but I'm pretty spiffed with the plugins that come with Reaper...

As soon as you connect one via BT or plug in that little USB wireless thingy you have just that.

She did, I didn't even realize it until she said "you're soaking in it".
