Default High quality Nebula libraries - Henry Olonga

Hi guys,

I hope it will be okay to post this here. Its been a really long time since I posted but I am loving popping in once in a while. Just a little message to let folks know what I have been up to in case they have missed it.

Long and short is that in addition to making my next album I have been exploring some things. Firstly, getting to use Nebula smoothly on my powerful PC - Sonar always had aweful glitching. Reaper came out on top no surprises. I also sample with Reaper and there ain't no going back.

Well onto that - I have been developing for the Nebula platform and have made many free libraries for the Nebula community. I was allowed to become a third party developer a few months ago. It has taken a while and a lot of experimenting but I believe that the libraries I have created surpass most peoples expectations of what is possible in the box. I have pushed the envelope and sampled using Prismsound Orpheus convertors at 192 khz and the libraries have very, very good detail. Most libraries are available in both 192 khz and 96 khz with 44.1 khz library upgrades ( downgrades? LOL ) coming in due course.

I have numerous full quality 10 kernel Free demos dotted around the place on the site so please have a listen and give me feedback so I can serve the community. You will need a licensed version of Nebula 3.

Now the great news. I have official permission from Casey of Bricasti to develop a Bricasti library for free for the Nebula community in conjunction with another high profile Nebula Third party developer. It will be a massive undertaking so support for my other libraries will enable me to have time to do it. Also a portion of all sales of my presets goes towards the charity I support in Zimbabwe - the mumvuri project, an orphanage.

Do get in touch if I can help in any way. I would also request that if anyone has any preset requests for hardware that you like to see sampled do let me know- it helps if it is easy to source of course. An EMI REDD47 may be a stretch. Also if you are in the UK and would love to have your precious, fragile hardware preserved for posterity before it dies, give me a shout and it would be my pleasure to pursue the possibility of digitally archiving your sounds using Nebula. Perhaps a community edition of these libraries will emerge as a result.

While it is undeniable that algorithmic modelling has improved in leaps and bounds in recent years there does seem to be a little magic missing from time to time.

Harnessing the power of the incredible Nebula engine these releases help to add a little bit of that magic, sparkle and mojo back into your mixes in an all digital environment.

Designed to work in harmony with your established plugins these presets are made to be placed before or after your plugin of choice to enhance your colour palette.

Henry Olonga releases MPassive Mojo. Add some depth, warmth and mojo to your Massive Passive (TM) VST Plugin with a beautiful sounding set.
URL: Henry Olonga – MPassive Mojo STEREO 192 khz | Nebulapresets

The best results IMHO are attained by placing the mojo set in front of your Massive Passive (tm) emulation plugin

Henry Olonga releases Toobey Techy Compo Mojo. Add some depth, warmth and mojo to your CL1B (TM) VST Plugin with a beautiful sounding set.

Download 32 bit 96 khz demo audio evaluation files here

Henry Olonga releases NV Vintage PRE. .The undeniable sound of the classic era. The 1073 (TM) tone for sure.
URL: Henry Olonga – NV Vintage PRE 192 khz | Nebulapresets

Henry Olonga releases Millenium High Voltage PRE. A staple preamp in most studios, one of the clearest and open preamps money can buy. Hi Fidelity
sound at your fingertips.

Henry Olonga releases Pultec Mojo. .Add some depth, warmth and mojo to your Pultec EQ emulation VST Plugin with a beautiful sounding set.

Henry Olonga releases Focus PRE. .An open clear mic preamp with clarity and relatively flat frequency response.

They're no different than other libraries – well in fact they're probably even worse because Henry usually samples ONE snapshot. There's no parameters.
I think nobody is really happy with Nebula's "disgusting" GUI, but the sonic results outweigh any workflow inconveniences easily. IM(VH)O, YMMV, FED, USSR, ETC.

Hey beingmf,

Sorry for a longish reply but this is my two cents just for the sake of anyone unfamiliar with my tools. In fairness I sample a lot of snapshots because I have a 'gentleman's agreement' with some other third party developers; ostensibly to leave room for them to continue to earn a living from a craft that I am coming late to the party to. So I had to use some imagination as I decided that I won't do paramaetric eqs and compressors with controls.

Although it is true that I give little wiggle room with 'snapshots' it need not equate to 'worse' IMHO. I do sample a lot of pres and tones primarily and they dominate my shop. I am all about tones. However I have only recently begun to realy dig into making the snapshots as they are so useful to some people who want to mix quickly - feedback I get anyway. It depends on which library you go for of course as consoles, tape sims, preamps, reverbs and mojo presets are effectively snapshots that give little room to tweak anyway.( Apart from wet dry with verbs). It is only eqs and compressors that require adjustments. But I do sample compressors for their tone and offer the chance for full adjustment when used in conjuction with an algorithmic plugin which gives customers more control than even nebula can give. Is it authentic? Well it gets you awefully close. So it really is only eqs left then. My approach is different as stated.

In the case of an equalised chain that I create, the one preset has all the information of multiple interacting bands in one nebula instance, just like the hardware at 'realtime bounce time', something multiple instances cannot truly replicate. I make mix decisions on real material with real interacting curves. I do try to cover the main areas of an instrument that most engineers would look to adjust. The snapshots are also comprised of ten distortion kernels so arguably offers the best quality Nebula can offer. I tried to create enough presets per library to cover most bases but learned that I cannot cover everything. The most thorough package of this sort that I have made has been the G-20 Acoustica which has 30 presets per sample rate. 90 in total. I think at least one of them should work in most mixing sessions. But that was overkill so I am limiting to about 10 to 15 presets now but working on making about 10 packages per piece of hardware to cover a typical band plus piano, strings, horns etc. so there is much more coming. I am also going to make chains of hardware. So where does it leave you? Well, my mix decisions may not get you 100 % of the way there and that's why I suggest that you use your own digital tools to carve the sound to what you want usually with an emulation plugin of the hardware. I usually leave an un-equalised preset for this purpose in most series as it is. That preset will retain most of the goodnes of the piece. In the case of a channel strip lke the Console strip - I first made the individual components - preamp, DI, the whole strip and the output. I then made snapshots for those who want to mix quickly with good quality. It is not for tweak heads admittedly but don't knock it till you've tried it. I use my own presets in my own mixing and man it is super fast if the presets work. Set and forget. This is not for purists I admit and folk who want total control can use the tools of the other developers as they are so thorough. These tools are for anyone who wants quick instant feedback but quality results.

Most of my presets are about £ 2 at launch so one can get a feel for the compromise my workflow imposes cheaply at least by simply trying a fail proof option like a preamp or tape sim.

As far as the GUI - I think the skins do make a difference but I love that I can access all my programs in one place. I guess we all love a bit of eye candy but I agree with you the sonic improvements of using nebula far outweigh its appearance. Sorry for the convoluted response.

Peace and take care
H

Ah...... I understand. FWIW it's much simpler now with the drop down menu - have you got the latest version that deals with the navigation issues we had early on? Cannot imagine how the drop down menu can be improved further hence why I assumed it had to with appearance. Anyway - for what it's worth you can make custom plugins to have just one third party developer's stuff as a plugin for example. As far as my presets are concerned they are all in one main category in the drop down menu so there is no need to hunt around like with the other libraries.

As far as workflow - I agree - it is a CPU hog that requires a super computer or a change in approach. For some it is too much of a pain and many have abandoned it - but I believe there is nothing like it.......... warts and all.

Hey Henry,
thanks for the long explanation! I wasn't aware of the "gentleman's agreement" part of the story. But to be honest, the snapshot approach does work okay. The only reason I used the word "worse" in my reply was Jason who already seems to have problems with Nebula's generic GUI Now imagine him being forced to use "static" snapshots of EQ and the like, haha.

@Jason: re the Nebula EQ workflow – I often use an algorithmic EQ first in order to sweep through the frequencies. When I know where to boost and/or to cut, I'll fire up a Nebula EQ that would fit the sonic character of the instrument track, be it parametric or static. Like many Nebularians, you'll soon find your to-go programs, one example is the Massive Pa..., sorry, the Mammoth set to "cut" and "3.3k" .

And btw. Henry's "Titan" library is killer – the 4 preamp programs alone would be worth buying!

Bring it on

Hi Guys,
I have released my new series starting today - it is called AIR and will include 8 parts to the series. Part one is released today.

Next week I begin the roll out of the sample rate upgrades for the remaining libraries that do not support all rates.

Ignore driving the input - there is little in the way of distortion. Load it and either use it in the FX bin or in parallel on a BUS send. I guess I find using it on the track itself is fine so up to you.

Henry Olonga releases AIR part 1..For adding that elusive non harsh high end. URL: http://www.nebulapresets.com/?produc...nebula-192-khz

I am also beginning my CUSTOM preset and CUSTOM Remote Processing service as well for those who want a more bespoke approach to their presets or audio file processing. This will be a hands on collaboration with me to get presets that work for you in your context.

Henry Olonga releases Custom services..Those who want a more tailored, persoanlised Nebula experience. URL: http://www.nebulapresets.com/?produc...custom-presets

I have also, as promised, thrown together a few more bundles in the bundles section of my site. Navigate from the shop Tab as always.

Take care

Awesome!! I know you won't disclose anything, but a little hint about the origin of the "Air" programs?

And while we're at it: Henry, do you have access to a "Federal AM-864" compressor by chance? Just for the mid range mojo, not the compression itself? Would be a great addition to your Mojo series, don't you think?

Never heard of it and don't have access to it but of course if I can source it - you bet. As for the AIR product, if I told you I would have to........... he he he. Check out the thread on the acustica forum and it should make sense if you read through.

Also - it's been a while since I offered something for free so apologies for that but in keeping with the spirit of the season - this is for customers with the commercial version of Nebula unfortunately. It is the DI section from the transparent G-20 family and it will give your audio that expensive sound with no effort. It is in stereo and is good enough for Mastering, track and master bus duties. It is about a 20 MB download. Good enough for Master Bus duties. I will do a series using it in the future. This is for the jazz and acoustic music guys. You can feel around the instruments. You will be disappointed when you press bypass. Good quality this. Enjoy

I just picked up two of Henry's Mojo libraries (front ends for use with an algo compressor of their particular flavors), one for the 2A and one for the 670. In the short time I've had to play around with them a bit they're just great! Mojo libraries like these do SO MUCH for compressor emulations and these are some of the most useful and detailed mojo libraries out there. The variation in compression level gives you a truly subtle level of detail that you simply cannot dial in with your favorite native emu alone.

I hadn't yet checked out any of Henry's offerings as I work at a much lower sample rate than 192K that Henry is most fond of; while I use 96K libraries all the time I wasn't really sure how well the 192->44.1 conversion would work out (as it turns out there are 96K programs for both of these libraries and one of them even had 44 programs as well). I'm pleased to say that the 192K programs sound fine (as is usual with Nebula libraries, there are definitely very subtle differences between the various sample rate programs but they're usually different samplings so there's potentially a lot of variation from one program to the next).

Very impressive.

Hi Ngarjuna - Thanks for the feedback. Slowly working through adding 44.1 khz and 96 khz support for all libraries missing them so all libraries should have 192 khz, 96 khz and 44,1 khz by mid year 2013.
Cheers,
Henry

Default New releases

Hey guys,

New products added today. Way too many to list here but amps, mics, mojo and quick mix tools. Basically everything on sale is new since my last update.

The amps are very realistic. The G-drive is your friend.

http://www.nebulapresets.com/?produc...nebula-presets

I also have updates for some of the earlier 192 khz only preset packs in the sample rate upgrades section. I am almost there now with the earliest libraries.

The big news is that the latest stuff from February has the G-drive added. This may not occur to you now but this is a big deal. The G-drive just about is the best free upgrade for the libraries that you will get that will give you so much more flexibility in getting into the sweet spot of the hardware sampling. I have been amazed at how much you miss without it.
I will be adding the G-drive over time as I work through my previous samplings. I have changed my mind and will not be renaming them with a _G suffix so these will replace your old files. If this bothers you and you want backward compatibility, you can always rename the new ones but once you hear the difference you may want to remix everything because it is just so much better.
Please delete the recent G-drive updates. Now a word of warning - some work better with it and some give audible artifacts. You don't have to use it but it can add what you have been missing. I am starting from scratch today.

The Updates I have uploaded now are
Big Guitar Amp
NV Smooth Electric - 192 khz
NV Vocality - 192 khz
Quick Kick 192/96khz
Small Phender Amp
Tiny Guitar amp
Tape Sim - All sample rates

The future - I will be focussing on Amps for the next few weeks as I try to source some high quality, high end amps and spaces. I will also be bringing out a series based around the extraordinary EMI Preamps. Stuff plugged into stuff, you know that sort of thing. Hope you find the recent stuff useful.

Default Help

Hi guys,

In London again soon on unrelated business but have some studio time for a small window. Need some advice from the strummers. Would like to maximise my time. This studio has an amazing collection of big amps and Cabs and I mean classic stuff.

First, I am not a guitarist. It would be great to hear from guitarists on what the best amps are out there in their opinion. They don't have everything but they have plenty of the standard classic stuff.

Second. Favourite settings if any?

This will be a custom set and I am hoping to create a truly cutting edge toolset so it would help to have end user input.

Post processing will be done through Helios, Neve, Api, Vortexion and EMI gear. It may end up being quite large but I hope it will be one of the most realistic ITB cabs collection.

Look forward to hearing from you.

I'm no guitarist, either, but one of my favourite amps to record recently is a '72 Fender Quad Reverb modified/trimmed to only 2 speakers, like a Twin. As with most Fender tube amps, start with mids @7 or 8, and with bass and treble @min. Then slowly add bass and top end, if you like.
I don't know if it makes sense to catch the 'crunch' in a cab program, but this thing is very sensitive to input impedances, so input "1" will sound completely different from "2", IF the connected source does support it. Same applies to the "bright" switch, but i guess you already know that
It's an amazing amp, cuts through all the time and simply sounds "right", even in modest settings.

Another great amp to consider IMO – for the clean (funky) rhythm player – is the short-lived Pignose G40V (not the small 7/100!). Strum a Tele, and you'll instantly know what do do The library would probably end up with one single program, haha.
That said: have you ever thought about plugging a (fixed setting) wah pedal in the chain for thinning out the sound? That way the library could get quite large – and useful!

Ah yes, mics!?!? If they carry an AKG D120C, absolutely look into that for close micing. It's my preferred close amp mic by far! Add a nice LDC for ambience, and you're done. In my very humble non-metal-recording opinion

EDIT: ...and we need bass cabs!!!!!!!!!!!!! Old 'Acoustic' and Polytone!

That's a good question - I think with a powerful enough PC you can get your buffers down. The master page needs to be tweaked to reduce the buffer. Anyway - I think I have gone bonkers because I have set my site to name your price from now on.

Call this a kind of an experiment to see how I could get the previous Amp sampling to sound better. I think I did in a way. It was a bit bright so I warmed it up with my hardware.

My recent Amp samplings in London are not going to be released in full as I am planning on serving the high end with them. In other words for those discerning guitarists and mixers who want to get a bit more depth in the box and are willing to pay for the custom deluxe edition. I will release scaled down versions of the amps in the shop however but they will be really scaled back with no post processing and in one sample rate.

Having said all that - here is my first community edition package done with no corners cut. This is the same quality that I release my commercial libraries in so take it for a spin.
It is of a small 4 Watt Vox. Details on the page. Not perfect in every way and it won't work on everything but I hope it comes in useful for you guys who work in the genre where Amps come into play.

Shove a distortion plugin before it and then perhaps some post eq to taste.

It should work with Nebula Free but let me know if any issues arise. I am offering no support for this if you have download issues , I won't be able to help. Spread it far and wide if you like though and I don't care if it is hosted all over the place.
Enjoy

Hey guys,

21 new products have been added and this time the focus has been on Microphones and preamps. The star of the show is the HELIOS preamp 'Titan V2' which will be the start of a wonderful series of high quality emulation. It sounds gorgeous on vocals especially but can be used across amix.
I also launch my first Ambience and space related pack and this is the ambience that comes from a Yamaha piano. Just the ticket to add dimension to softsynth pianos.

To get an incredible deal of 50 % off all products, use the coupon below within the next two days -

Default New release

http://www.nebulapresets.com/?produc...lite-pro-96khz

RAISING THE BAR. Great for mixing and stunning when mastering whole mixes!!
Sampled with ‘Prismsound Orpheus’ precision at 192 kHz.
After much thought I decided to offer this as a truly OPEN release. I could have used copy protection but I do not want to inconvenience my customers.
About the hardware
This is a superb sampling of a channel strip that features the sound of many classic records such as those from Fleetwood Mac, Stevie wonder and many more.
This is for you if you desire better separation, a ’3D’ effect that makes for a dynamic performance extracting subtle depth, reducing flatness and increasing detail.
These samplings will give you very high resolution mixes.
Nebula libraries. - 27 Program Files in Freq Mode and Timed mode as well. All available in 96khz and 44.1 khz.
Five-12C Preamp (High,Medium and Low)
DI input
Line input
Five-50A mojo ( Flat, Band Pass and Wide range)
Main Output – Standard and optional. Equivalent to the Three-25 Line driver. Perfect for master bus duties.
Full strip from Preamp/Line in through all modules to the output ( Standard, Warm, Distorted, Hot, Medium,Low and Wide range)
10 Chains where I plugged other hardware pieces prior to plugging into the console strip’s line in.
Pieces used were – RND™ 5033 EQ flat, EMI Preamp, GML™ 2032 flat, Millenia™ HV3 preamp, BAE™ DMP Neve 1073 DI, BAE™ DMP Neve 1073 DI into RND 5033 EQ Flat , BAE™ DMP Neve™ 1073 PRE into RND™ 5033 EQ Flat, Safesound™ audio P1 Preamp and finally a Vortexion solid state Preamp.
N.B Five-27 compressor library scheduled for future release.

Five-50A Impulse responses Every filter position in every standard sample rate. These are probably the highest resolution impulse ever created = A little brightish but superb detail extraction.
The Beautiful Room impulse responses - Virtual model of a wonderful studio sound. Great for adding depth.
75 impulse responses – 64 bit 192 khz , 32 bit 96 khz and 32 bit 44.1 khz
Fleetwood Mac Dreams Q-clone Impulses – gentle tonal curves derived from this classic band. Great to place on the front end of the full strip in situations where a quick mix is required.
Five-50A Wave Q-clone snapshots - Every filter position just like the impulse responses – independent sampling at 96 khz.
Filter Impulse responses – based on the Two-15L. 119 files X 7 sample rates. 64 bit 192 khz down through to 32 bit 44.1 khz Impulse responses.
Various Q-clone Impulses – gentle tonal curves derived from my TCS series for quick mixing. Great to place on the front end of the full strip in situations where a quick mix is required.

Default End of year sale.

Hi guys,
Hope you all had a happy Christmas.I have just launched my end of year sale with two exciting additions to my inventory that I have had repeated requests for and that amount to massive savings in the order of hundreds of pounds.

This release includes my NEW - The console strip ELITE Pro - my take on an Aypeye type channel strip emulation. Also included are many samplings of NV, Solid state, GeML, EMI, Healios and many, many more tones to add to your arsenal affordably.

Today I launch the all you can eat downloads. These downloads include everything in store in one neat package. At a glance these tools are all about offering the tone and mojo of classic hardware and include roughly ( N:B Some products are one product split into many parts )

19 unique 'PRO' products that extend the possibilities in Nebula land
9 Frequency related tools,
37 Preamp and DI emulations
40 Compressor EQ and mojo emulations
34 Quick mix preset packs
16 Guitar Cab emulations ( Full Cabs yet to be released in some cases )
19 Microphone emulations
3 Distortion type effects
6 Master bus and drum bus Emulations
5 Channel strip emulations
9 Tape Emulations.

44.1 kHz available for £30. 8 Gigabytes
96 kHz available for £ 40. 25 Gigabytes

http://www.nebulapresets.com/?page_id=2548

These discounted bundles last until the 14th of January. I do the massive sale once a year so if you miss out then you may kick yourself in a few days.

They are large downloads - 44.1 kHz = aprox 8 gigs. The 96 kHz bundle is aprox 25 gigs so you do need a fast internet connection or you may struggle with the downloads. I have already previously launched media releases and if you have a slow connection you can get a product shipped out to you.
Best wishes
Henry
