Well I agree if it were so, but it isn't really the case as you can just make fictitious account and clicking a button isn't that all hard. Honestly 99% of those who try the synth probably like it anyway so no big stretch. Several other good free plugins that requires a login too. It's a slight pain for a big (free) gain in my opinion.

I just found these the other day, I haven't looked back through the thread to see if they had already been mentioned, but even so, they are worth a second nod:

I found a huge cache of old plugin packs to rummage through:

http://mp3.deepsound.net/plugins_packs.php

the mission, should you choose to except it, is to discover a gem and tell us about it! I'll do my best.

Not really a plugin at all, but a great free audio tool you might want to know about is VB-Audio CABLE, a Windows Audio Driver working as Virtual Audio Cable. (MME, DX, WDM Device Driver for XP, VISTA, WIN7, WIN8 32/64 bits)

So basically it installs as an audio driver in Windows control panel and you can use it route in and out with other audio drivers (devices). The main advantage (in my opinion) is that you can use it together with for example Reaper to put ANY computer sound through your favorite plugins. I have this on my living room computer and connected to the stereo etc so I can play for example Youtube or whatever through my favorite plugin combos, it really transforms the experience.

Hey VGer, can you show me the settings in Reaper that allow us to receive audio from the VB virtual cable? I can think of some uses for this.

Does this imply the native Reaper and JS effects for Delay, Limiting, Compressor, EQ, etc. were insufficient?

Digital Fish Phones has some good compressors.

Soundhack's +decimate is a good bit/sample reducer.

Who's got a good, low CPU rent brick wall limiter?

Here is how I use it in Windows XP:

(some crackling present as buffer size (latency) was a bit low I later realized since this was not from my living room machine where I normally use the setup)

Default platinum ears IQ4 dynamic eq

In praise of an old plugin you may not know about but is very, very useful for surgical corrections. It's a 4 band dynamic eq and it really is a gem - don't know of any other freeware dynamic eq's.

http://www.platinumears.com/iq4gui.html

Even if you don't think you need it - just grab it - you know how old plugins have a habit of disappearing off the face of the 'net and you never know when you're gonna need it (as i found out the other day - really saved me with some difficult challenges!)

Just to let people having a rough knowledge of French (or not even) to know that. A French man created a thread devoted to free vst-i's. He followed it up for quite a bit of time and till now, actually. ANother one decided to collect all the links given in this thread and to make a table out of it, including the number of the post -in this one first thread - where each one appear. SO it's quite a bit of a tool, probably containing things you know but, hopefully, not, too. I thought some of you might enjoy this info. It's there:

http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.p...04#post1227904

thread #1053

... and it should go on!

Another little known gem - Pitched Delay by ljkb - like readelay but with more filters and the ability to change the pitch of each delayed signal.

Something that has really grown on me are the Sir Elliot plugins, should really be up there with Variety of Sound and others in my opinion.

Don't let the name and GUIs matter too much, just try them out for a while, some top stuff there. Preamplifiers, EQs, limiters, compressors etc.

Nugen Lineup:

Lineup is a track adjustment utility designed to allow the rapid manipulation of audio inputs, including phase switching, multiple mono collapse options and sample accurate line-up of multiple audio tracks.

Although primarily intended as a line up tool for misaligned tracks (no host PDC, phase re-alignment, long mic/speaker recording delay, etc.), Line-up can also be used as a send effect to create very precise chorus, phase and doubling effects.

Without a doubt one of the very best free synth out there!

Only difference from the full version is lack of the effects section and no 64bit version.
For those who missed this after the download link was stopped, it is now re-opened, but on Beat's Facebook page. You have to 'like' it (either Beat or Dune, not entirely sure) for the download link to appear there which means you need a Facebook account first:
https://www.facebook.com/beat.magazi...51135451618598

I recommend you get this even if you don't like Facebook, this is a must have synth!
Well now you can get it without Facebook, just need to sign up at Beat Magazine here: http://www.beatdrive.de/?t=plugins&pid=&pluginid=

It's in German so you might want to run it through a translator, but recommend you keep that on the side for reference and actually do the registering through the original page to avoid errors.

(To check out what DUNE BE sounds like, here are some tracks made with only that synth and nothing else)

TSE Audio has in my opinion some of the best freeware distortion and amps, and some are stereo too which is not all that common.

Try for example TSE X30 on a synth (remember to set it to stereo)

..or TSE X50 on guitar:

TSE B.O.D

TSE R47

TSE 808

Newly released from the same developer is VB-Audio Virtual Hi-Fi Cable, an ASIOBridge that allows you to convert MME, KS, WASAPI or DX Interface to ASIO Device. Brilliant stuff really.

Route from whatever audio applications...

To whatever ASIO devices...

Sorry if I repost something guys, I don't have time to read all but this thread goes directly to my bookmarks.

My 2 cents:

VSTis
-----
Camel Audio Alchemy Player v1.25
- one of the very best romplers/synths with limitations respect the commercial one but still very powerful if we consider it's free.

MAGIX Indepence Sampler FREE Version
- Comes with a 2GB library. Another no-brainer

I'm a metal head. So the following are the best plugins I know for guitars, although there are some generic ones.

TSE audio:
http://www.theserinaexperiment.net/website/software.htm
- amp and effects sims, high quality, especially the TS 808
- mostly high gain

LePou:
http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com.es/
- very high quality high gain amp sims, among the very best including commercial ones
- impulse / IR loaders to simulate speaker/micing

Fretted synth audio
http://rekkerd.org/fretted-synth/
- amp sim , noise gate and wah sims among others

Simulanalog Guitarsuite
http://www.simulanalog.org/guitarsuite.htm
- perhaps one of the best free simulators of the Marshall jcm800 amp
- good Tube Screamer/Overdrive

AcmeBarGig
http://www.acmebargig.com/
- amp sims (high gain mostly)
- cab sims impulse-based and an interesting "cabinet-enhancer"

NickCrowLab
https://sites.google.com/site/nickcrowlab/
- amps and preamps sims
- perhaps the 8505 ampsim is their most popular product

Ignite Amps
http://www.igniteamps.com/
- tube amps , preamps and poweramps. High quality tube emulation
- impulse loader cabinet simulator with ZERO LATENCY (the first and only free ATM), ideal for jamming

Blue Cat Audio Freeware Pack
http://www.bluecataudio.com/Products..._FreewarePack/
Free plugins with pedigree from the well know Blue Cat company
-chorus
-flanger
- frequency analsis
- gain controller
- phaser
- 3 band eq

DSK MUSIC
http://www.dskmusic.com/dsk-akoustik-guitarz/
- lot of VSTi's, some good some not so good

Pettinhouse Acoustic Guitar FREE for Kontakt
http://www.pettinhouse.com/html/download.html
- Lite version of one of the best virtual electric guitars (dry)

Variety of sound
http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/downloads/
- outstanding Ferric plugin tape analog saturator
- good ones also for mastering, always adding "vintage analogic" warm sound

Ronald passion
http://rekkerd.org/ronald-passion/
- 2 good amps and a preamp
- the developer has just retired, because of blurry vision (his words)

BETABUGS AUDIO
http://www.betabugsaudio.com/plugs.php
- general purpose plugins
- including one emulation of the waves W1 limiter

Distorque audio
http://distorqueaudio.com/plugins.html
- guitar effects, compressors, fuzz, chorus, pedal distortion,...

GVST
http://www.gvst.co.uk/downloads.htm
- general purpose vsts
- the best IMHO is the multiband compressor & stereo enhancer

XP
http://www.soft-amp.com/audio-fx
- amp sims, overdrive/ts, tube preamp

BTE audio
http://www.bteaudio.com/products/index.html
- one amp
- the best: pretty good TS sim

Elogoxa
http://www.uv.es/~ruizcan/
- drums synth
- a great frequency exciter

Mercuriall
http://mercuriall.iks.ru/cms/
- astounding sim amps and preamps, great quality, the best tube emulations
- innovator cab emulator that theoretically improves all simple convolution impulse loaders, features a technology similar to the famous Nebula plugin. Still young but looks very promising

SYNTHBLITZ AUDIO
http://www.synthblitz.altervista.org/spazial-.html
- stereo enhancer suitable for many uses

Nebula 3 free & Free Nebula Programs
http://www.acustica-audio.com/index....=20&Itemid=101
- very powerful vst, also CPU hungry
- can do eq, frequency exciter, mastering, preamp, power amp, almost everything
- the only effects it can't emulate are the ones with high gain, like amp sims
- according to the fans what it does, it does better than any other plugin

Another ones:
-ScorchCrafter Guitar FX DAW Plug-ins http://sourceforge.net/projects/scor...?source=navbar
- Vadim Taranov amp sims http://www.synthblitz.altervista.org/spazial-.html

IMPULSES / IRs FOR GUITARRISTS
- to emulate amp cabinet and micing, they need a impulse loader
- there are a lot free ones (easi to find googling)
- guitar hacks impulses: perhaps the best ones
- catharsis impulses
- sperimental impulses
- gods cab irs 1.4
- kalthallen IR free library (http://cabs.kalthallen.de/):
more quantity but you need to know how to combine them properly
- impulses that emulate the guitar sound of a lot of bands: (if you wanna play with metallica or slayer sound this is for you)
bestplugins IR packs (there are 5 packs, 6th in progress)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E54kL3LBLac

Hope it helps because I'm tired big time lol

Cheers

I recently spent a good few solid days raping the web for free plugins. I'm nowhere near getting round to testing them all. But out of the few I have managed to try out, I particularly like 'Fragmental', a granular multi-fx thingy (can get loud quickly).... http://www.niallmoody.com/ndcplugs/fragmental.htm

The 'Terry West' plugins are pretty neat... http://www.terrywest.nl/index-7.html

And, although not a vst, there's 'AAMS' (Auto Audio Mastering System) which I find can be used as a fantastic learning tool, and must be the easiest way for beginners to get a half decent master....

The Kammerl VST Plugins are REALLY good fun. http://www.kammerl.de/audio/

Zip file contains 5 plugins... 4 of which are kinda DJ-orientated (Pitcher, Slicer, Looper, and Scratcher, and the 5th plugin is a very usable Warm Distortion.

And the artwork is proper boshty. :>
