Do checking "Draw multiple MIDI CC lanes..." and unchecking "Combine all MIDI CC data..." in Preferences->Appearance->Peaks/waveforms change something?
Does expanding the track change something?

Is the lower lane in the first screenshot the velocity data? Many users complained about not wanting to see velocity data in the arrange view.

That is the default setting.

Yes, it's velocity lane.
With those two CC displayed, when I'm edtitng my piano MIDI items I can see at first glance where I can safety split, without having to open the editor. It's a significant time saver for me.

An option to switch on/use this feature would be helpful as shown above when doing splits. Yet another thing Reaper can do to help workflows.

I haven't updated yet but I hope the velocity information is not removed and there is no way to put it back. This is something I use a lot for drum programming.

The velocity information hasn't been removed. You can still edit it in the MIDI editor.
The change is that now you can't see a separate velocity lane when you look at the item in the arrange view. (There is still a velocity lane in the MIDI editor.)
I hope that's what you are asking.

It's in the arrange view that I need the dual display, I don't have any problems with the MIDI editor.

I agree with Dr. Bob, Inertia and Zblogny. Why remove this very useful function for composers? The majority is not always the truth.

Schwa, please add arrange view velocity lanes back as an option. It's useful for In-line MIDI Editor work. Defaulting to off by default perhaps?
Thanks.

This is like a master class in feature latch. Velocity data displayed in the arrange view was in prerelease builds for about a month, and it seemed fine. We released a version of REAPER with it and got a lot of complaints about it, which is also fine, prerelease testing doesn't always cover all possible user needs, and users are especially sensitive to any display/UI changes. We heard the complaints and agreed the velocity data didn't provide much value especially for polyphonic MIDI, so we removed the feature for a point release 3 days later. The feature existed in an official REAPER release for literally 3 days total!

So can we hope to get that feature back (with a checkbox unchecked by default to satisfy the majority) in a future release ?

In recent versions of REAPER, the user can choose which CC lanes to display in the arrange view, either by changing CC lanes in the (main or inline) MIDI editor, or by using a script (such as "Select CC lanes to show in selected MIDI items").
If the user doesn't want to see the velocity lane in the arrange view, it can be disabled like any other CC lane.
Since a user might often wish to switch between showing and hiding the velocity lane (like any other lane), a toggle action might be appropriate than a setting in Preferences. The action might be named something like "Show/Hide velocity lane in all MIDI items".

Yes, in recent versions till 5.75, not further on.

That would be perfect if it could work in arrange view !

This feature (displaying specific/multiple CC lanes in the arrange view) was introduced in 5.75 on Feb 17, and modified in 5.76 on Feb 20 to exclude velocity data.

Hello,
I just installed 5.77, which in principle should have fixed it..
Well, not quite...
There are four options in Preferences - Appearance - Peaks/Waveforms:
1) Do not display CC Data
2) Only the first lane visible in the MIDI editor
3) One lane combining all CC data
4) Multiple lanes when space permits (Default)
This one does not work :
Even though I increase the item height to be sure that the space permits, I still have only one CC lane, and never the velocity even if it is in upper position in the MIDI editor.
Option 3 is of no use for me, there is no longer the gray area showing the ON pedal state.
Finally, what matters most to me is this gray display of sustain zones, it's the main information to know where I can split without leaving a pedal up. Ultimately I can do without the velocity. So option 2 is possible, or 4 if my CC64 is on upper line.
Conclusion: I keep 5.77, waiting for next improvements...

MIDI items in the arrange view will only display lanes that are visible in the MIDI editor: if only one lane is open in the MIDI editor, only one will be displayed in the arrange view.
To change lane visibility in the arrange view without opening the MIDI editor for each MIDI item, use the script linked to above.
(I also miss the velocity lane, which was often helpful.)

I do have two lanes open in MIDI editor, Velocity & CC64.
In 5.75 I could see both in the arrange view. Only CC64 now, despite announced change in 5.77.
"Multiple lanes when space permits" does not work.

Hi,
As an alternative, one could come up with...convert sustain pedal to note length. Because not only cutting but punch in recording over a track that has cc64s in it is a pita.
There is a jsfx that does it after its recorded, but you can insert it as an item fix and glue. I think Veto made it.
Logic was the first program I ever saw this feature in, but the mpc60 was the first sequencer I saw it in.

CC64 gray areas work here just fine:
You might need to tweak the amount of shading in Theme Development dialog:

Ah, sorry, I thought you were referring to two CC lanes such as Expression and Modwheel.
The velocity lane is indeed still AWOL.
