Default All of the sudden Reaper doesn't "hear" my microphone

For some reason, I have no idea why, Reaper doesn't pick up my microphone any longer. I didn't change any settings (that I'm aware of) and the setup had worked for weeks prior to this. I tried deleting all the Reaper content in AppData, uninstalled Reaper and installed an old version (4.02), but no cigar.

I know that my soundcard picks up the microphone input because I can hear it in my headphones (which are also connected to the soundcard). But the input meter in Reaper doesn't move!

Here are the settings that I believe can be relevant: http://imgur.com/3y1Bq,29aJz,bIbfK

Any help appreciated!

What soundcard do you have and how have you got it configured in the Devices section in Reaper preferences?

Actually, can you post a screen shot of your Devices setup.

Hi and thanks for the response!

I'm sorry that I wasn't clear about it but the URL I gave you has three images! Click "Third image" to see the devices configuration. I have a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB external soundcard.

Thanks again

Does your interface have any preferences window for the interface itself? If it has then maybe the problem is in there. Because I can't see anything looking strange in your pictures.

It does have a preference window, but there is really not a lot to set in there. I've always used the default settings and it's worked just fine. I've also tried ASIO4ALL and tried re-installing the Saffire drivers.

Here is a screenshot of the ASIO configuration: http://imgur.com/fgFnQ

EDIT: I forgot to add that I cannot even play sounds through Reaper using ASIO. It does work with DirectSound though. Playing music through foobar2000 selecting Saffire as output doesn't work either! So I'm guessing it's probably not a problem with Reaper, but something else in my configuration. But I figured you guys at this forum should have an idea anyways!

Yeah, maybe! But I don't think so. When I press Play in Reaper, it just says [playing] but the "cursor" in Reaper doesn't move and no sound comes out.

Hmmm. I hate these kinds of mysteries when I have to deal with them myself.

If Reaper is not even moving on play then check your synchronization settings and make sure Reaper isn't slaved to an external play source and waiting for a command.

As for the input...hmmm. No idea comes immediately to mind except to cold start the computer.

What about another audio app? Have you tried getting a signal into anything else?

ALSO: "monitor input" in the input selection in TCP should be on so you can see the signal flow into Reaper.

I'm sure you'll solve this soon.

I just cold started the computer, started Reaper, but still the same thing.

When I try to record in Audacity, it just waits forever, just like Reaper.

What are the "synchronization settings" and where can I expect to find them?

If it's happening in two DAWs, try a demo of a third, like Presonus Studio One, etc. It sounds like a hardware issue so far. Or, it could be a bad setting going into the DAW from your computer.

Default Solved it!

I unplugged the USB cord (shutting off the soundcard) and then plugged it back in. Suddenly worked just fine!
