pipelineaudio and everyone else.....would this be interesting for all of us?????
Hello,
Would this be interesting and helpful to others...........
I can provide one or two minute tracks with drums, bass and guitar (and keyboards) recorded with REAPER. We could have pipelineaudio and / or anyone else take the virgin tracks and work with them in REAPER to enhance them....and help us learn.
By having virgin tracks everyone can pull into REAPER, we can all hear what untreated tracks start out as....and then we can pull in the same tracks modified by REAPER experts to learn what different functions do. Perhaps we could compare virgin drum tracks with compressed drum tracks. Or we could see how you can take 4 drum tracks (Left overhead, right overhead, snare, bass drum) and bounce them to one track. Whatever the experts think would help make the music / sounds the best they can be.
I am thinking this would be a great way for everyone to learn how a simple recording setup and REAPER make a great combination.
After watching the GREAT video tutorials and reading a ton on this AWESOME website....I am still seeking wisdom and hands on experience. In the videos, things like connecting the bass guitar track to the bass drum track (for gate / compression) are a bit over my head at this point. I got the point / idea right away when I watched the video, but I am still at a more basic level. It would really help me if sounds were created by instruments, then modified by the experts to demonstrate the FX within REAPER.
I am an A B A sound kind of guy. First I have a recorded sound, then I modify it with FX, then I take the FX away. It helps me learn what things like FX do, and how the sounds are altered. I suspect many other home REAPER users work this way to learn as well.
Without discipline, this could easily turn into mic placement, bla bla bla.....and get us unfocused from learning REAPER. I would commit to keeping the mics in the same spots, recording everything at consistent levels, taking pictures, etc. in an effort to keep everything simple and real world.
My intent is to provide an experiment that all of us can benefit from. Simple tracks with power chords, simple solos, simple bass lines and beats. Just capturing straight forward sounds onto REAPER tracks that our experts can work with.
Would anyone else like to make this happen?
Joe
PS - my studio consists of TASCAM 1641 USB 2.0 interface, drum set, Traynor tube and Line 6 Spider amps, Hartke bass amp, KAWAI keyboard. Mics include 2 Shure SM81's over drums, SM57 and AKG c 1000 s. Pretty basic stuff.
