You've got to love Pete Townsend even if he does use Live ;-)
Saw this video of Pete using Live in his studio and had to share. What a nutter!!! What a legend!!!!

saw townsend with the who live (i mean REALLY LIVE...)in the mid/late 60's if i remember.
a crazy nite to remember. moony on drums.
windmills, daltry throwing the mic out into the audience.
they were not only a great band live but also had a very fun
crazy side. wish i had some pictures of that night.

The DVD "The Who: Live at the Isle of Wight 1970" is a really great fix for those who want to see what they were like at their peak. Great interviews too. amazon link: http://tinyurl.com/2l9ybb

For me two Who albums stand out. Live at leeds and Quadrophenia.
Of course every album had something to say.

I saw 'em at last year's Glastonbury, in a somewhat muddy state (having gone arse over tit on the way to see them, though still without spilling the cider!): they still kick rump (well, the half that are still breathing do) but I don't half wish I'd been at the IoW in 1970. That DVD is indeed su-bloody-perb.

Pretty poor taste joke. The guy was completely exonerated by the authorities. He made a dumb mistake, and that's all. He doesn't deserve to be treated as if he was guilty, and I find that kind of "joke" very offensive.

More offensive than the child porn he had on his computer for "investigative purposes"?

Didn't he claim that he was attempting become a one-man, crime-fighting, porn-ring-busting super-hero?
What a nut-sack. Makes you wonder about that scene in Tommy...

As I remember Pete has been pretty open about some of the abuse he endured as a child.
UP with the bed clothes down with the bed sheets fiddle about fiddle about.
The funny thing I recall about their past as a band was ROdger Daltry saying if he ever suspected the band of doing drugs he would quit.
Still and all: a great group from a rebellious time.

Actually, he did NOT have child porn on his computer:
Quote:
"
MAY 7--After a four-month investigation, London police today cleared Pete Townshend of kiddie porn charges. But the rock star will still spend five years on a U.K. register of sex offenders because the co-founder of The Who visited a web site containing child porn images. Townshend was nabbed in January on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children, though no such photos were found following a search of his home and computer. At the time of his arrest, Townshend admitted using his credit card to visit a web site offering child porn, but told cops he was just conducting research. Along with being placed on the sex offender registry, the performer had to submit a DNA sample to police and have his fingerprints and mug shot taken. As part of his "research project," Townshend drafted the below six-page treatise on the easy availability of child pornography on the Internet. So easy, in fact, that Townshend, 57, wrote that he accidentally discovered a photo of a two-year-old boy being raped when he typed the words "Russia," "orphanages," and "boys" into a search engine. Townshend claimed that he reached for his telephone and "intended to call the police and take them through the process I had stumbled upon--and bring the pornographers involved to [jail]," but that he decided not to contact authorities after discussing the issue with an attorney."
|
If you want to read the paper he wrote, it's still on the smoking gun.

Draw your own conclusions, but from my perspective I doubt it is as black and white as you put it, else he would have been prosecuted far more aggressively.

Im glad that you posted that...
I heard about the child porn thing awhile back, but was too afraid to do any research... I didnt really want to think that Pete was into that stuff.
Actually, I really dont care what Pete does with his dork at all.
Its actually just as bad to me that he is using Ableton.
Very sad.

Leaving aside what PT did or didn't do...
I find it very sad that anyone would suggest - even as a "joke" - that using Ableton Live is *just as bad* as financially sponsoring and getting pleasure from watching videos of young children being abused.
Somebody's choice of music software vs. child abuse?? Shame on you.

Theses days, all you need is to be investigated for such offense and you're automatically guilty in the public eye, evidence be damned, so is later exoneration. I'm strangely reminded of the Catholic inquisition, where the mere mention of somebody association with witchcraft was cause for burning.

/me is reminded of the hounding of a paediatrition a few years back. Different circumstances, similar knee-jerk response. It's like Brass Eye never happened.
Anyway, none of this affects the man's musical ability and influence one jot.

It's easy to be judge and jury when in receipt of just a couple of 'facts' isn't it?
BTW Pete Townshend uses Digital Performer (I can just imagine the wise-cracks that some could respond to that with...)
thepedalman - thanks for posting the link, that series of videos is fun to watch!
Moderators - perhaps this thread should be moved (at least) if it continues to become a soap-box?
Edit: This one, from the same series, seems appropriate... http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=h3OBbtSWnLk
