How to? Coloring of tracks
I just installed the 'Default_Cammala_5' theme. What I am trying to do is set the colors for tracks, such as red for all my vocals.
As far as I can tell I have gone through all the steps to set the colors. However, at the moment there is only a color directly under the track number. My goal is to have the entire track be whatever color I have chosen for it.
Like much of Reaper, I am more than SURE that there is an options setting someplace.
Any ideas?

Unfortunately not just any option, you would have to edit the theme files themselves. In that theme the current TCP and MCP background panel images are non-transparent, so no colors will come through except in those strips. You could edit some transparency to the background images (tcp_bg, tcp_bgsel, mcp_bg and mcp_bgsel).
More about all this in the Theme forum.

I don't understand?
When I used the standard theme that comes with Reaper it changed the colors as you described all on its own. So, whats the difference between the standard theme and the one I have?

I have never had to edit any files like this before ...
And I am scared to death of trying it for fear of really messing something up! I still don't understand why it did it in Reapers standard themes but not with this one? With all the 1,000's of settings and options it just does not make sense that I would have to actually edit a file to accomplish this!!! I don't care about how light or dark the color is. Whatever it is when I activate the color is fine with me!
Does that clear this up?

Perhaps read what is said in the link I posted above and the reasons would become clear? Now, I can understand the fear of going too deep into editing. So maybe ask if somebody would do this for you? I can edit the images for you myself later on if needed, although you might probably like a full theme instead? Talking of which, there is already Default Commala 4 theme which uses the old way of coloring. Unless the latest version has something you really need, maybe try that?

I install Cammala 4 and got the same result ......
Is there a way I can take a screenshot of what I am getting and post it here for you to see?
I tried using the snipping tool in my Windows 10 but it says there is a file limit. So is there another way instead that I can post a screenshot so you can see what I am getting so I can hopefully correct it?
I just know that for what I am asking that there is a setting somewhere!

For the screenshots you could use a free image hosting site like imgur and post the link here.

Maybe your misunderstanding ....
I am not trying to make a theme, I am simply trying to use one!
Assume I have not recorded anything yet.....
At the bottom of each rack is the track number. Right under that is a small stripe with the color I picked but the entire track is still grey. I certainly hope that this further clarifies things here.

No worries, I got your intended use and also tried to explain why that happens. But just to recap, you want the whole track panels to get the color you choose for them, not just the small strip? Btw. here Default Commala 4 theme certainly does that, maybe we have different versions of it or some setting is indeed missing somewhere.

YES! YES! YES!
Finally we are together on this.
Question: Just curious ......How could I have asked this question so that you would have known what I meant from the very beginning? Keep in mind, being new to Reaper I do not know all the 'lingo' or terminology.......

Ahm, I tried to answer why you can't have full colored panels with that theme right in my first post. But I was obviously too cryptic with my answer, my bad, sorry. I just couldn't know before hands how much you know about themes and editing them.

You said Cammala 4 does this, right?
So, I went and installed Cammala 4. So, step-by-step, please tell me what to do here?

Right click over empty area of the track panel, select Track color from the menu. Under that there are few different options, just try any other of them except the default color because that is what you have already.
There are other ways to do this too, even different color toolbars, but let's just start with this, ok?

The only thing that is changing is the striped!
If you have cammala 4, can you please just pick something that you know does work?
I a starting to get very frustrated here!!

I have to apologize again, I guess it's getting too late here...I just downloaded the Default Commala 4 again and in that theme only the track name background gets the chosen color. My older version here must have been edited at some point and I didn't even remember it anymore. I'll check something for you...
edit: Ok, try this..
Go to Options/Preferences/Appearance/Track Control Panels. Tick the box Tint track panel backgrounds and hit OK. Then try again coloring.

Thank You!
I really appreciate it. There must be a way to do it in version 5 because I have been watching a video of a guy demonstrating different features of version 5, BUT, of course, he changed the colors "offline" so he did not show how he did that part......
I would be grateful if you can help me resolve this and I do recognize the time your spending helping me!

Default Commala 5 theme uses the v5 coloring system which is a bit different from the legacy coloring (v4 and earlier). In the new system, you can't use the track panel tinting option, it is greyed out. There are couple of ways to still do it, but it will require editing the theme files, not just ticking an option...which brings us right back to the beginning. I honestly have to go to bed now, it's 6AM here. I can probably look into this late today as it is, unless somebody else helps you in the meanwhile.

I do not have my heart set on v5 !!
So, if v4 does it without too much editing of files and it is just a matter of some settings, I'm cool!

Well, if the older theme is good enough, check the post #15. That is done simply via options.
One thing to know about the different themes is that they don't just look different to each other, they might also behave differently. Theme makers can decide to a degree what options the end users will have for example for coloring things.
You can check yourself one way v5 themes can be colored, just load in the Default 5 theme and try. But that doesn't mean you can do the same with every theme. That's why it is important to know exactly what theme is discussed in each case.

Yeah! v4 Works!
I am so grateful for all your time and effort to help me!
You see! I knew it was an option somewhere. And, think about it. Someone who like me is new to Reaper, how on earth would I think to even look on that options screen for a choice let alone know which one to put a check in that box?
Just so you are aware, I am a singer and I download some pretty good background music and record my singing to share with family and friends. Now that we are at the tail end of September, it is actually time to start planning for Christmas. It is my intention to pick up to 10 songs and learn each one really well. I have been singing my whole life but was just never formally trained. I am just learning how to breath properly and the various techniques of singing using some really nice videos I found on YouTube.
It is by no means ready for official production yet. You will notice I come in too early in some places and too late in others. Mine and every other singers challenge who is singing to pre-recorded music is instead of the music following me, I have to follow the music which, believe it or not, is not always that easy to do!
Anyway, here is a link to my first song:

Enjoy!

Dunno if it was mentioned, but there is an SWS feature to auto-color tracks based on track name. Search "auto color" in actions list to find it.

Took a time to read the whole thread, I was about to say that. The coolest way I think.
