Default REAPER flickers in Windows XP

Hey folks,

While using REAPER in XP Pro, I notice that upon starting the program, REAPER will flicker every once in a while. It keeps flickering as I press random buttons, create new tracks, and even while I'm recording. I've uninstalled my video driver and used standard 800x600 resolution, but REAPER still flickered. Even changing the refresh rate didn't fix the issue. Has anyone had this problem before? REAPER works fine on my laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium, but Vista doesn't work that well with my Line 6 Toneport UX1. I'm hoping you guys can give me some assitance with this. Greatly appreciated. My PC specs are as follows:

Pentium 4 2.6GHz
1GB RAM
160GB SATA HDD
256MB ATI Radeon X850 video card
Windows XP professional SP2
Reaper v. 2.3
Running ASIO drivers at 41000khz, 24bit

Thanks guys. REAPER rocks!!!

I run Reaper on a few different machines. XP Pro on two and XP Home on another. I haven't had any flickering problems. I guess you've checked ATI's website to see if your drivers are current?

I dunno... just tossin' an idea here.

By the way, welcome to the forum!

It's a long shot, but perhaps you have an IRQ conflict?

go to:

* Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information
* Expand the Hardware Resources dropdown
* Click on Conflicts/Sharing

It's normal for a windows machine to have shared IRQs because most Windows XP Installs use ACPI to manage this - so you may see a number of shared IRQs.

* Check to see if there are any devices you can disable while you're messing with Reaper (network cards are notorious for interfering with things.)

I hope this helps.

I think with "flicker" you mean a fast redraw of the GUI ?
I had this problem when using a Microsoft Intellimouse driver, until I changed the driver.

You did it WOK! I have a Microsoft Intellipoint cordless mouse. I uninstalled the driver, openened REAPER, and bingo!! The flickering is gone!!! Thanks so much for your help guys. WOK, which version of the Intellimouse driver are you using now? Did you have to downgrade? Again, thank you so much. Made my day!!
