Help with MIDI Setup in Ubuntu Studio
While in quarantine, I've put together a little Linux setup for fun.
Dell Inspiron 660s Presonus Firepod (working fine with ffado) Akai MPK49 (hooked up via USB to the PC) I'm unable to see the Akai. The firepod's midi is showing up, but not the Akai via USB. I don't see any MIDI settings in Qjackctl.... is there another program I should run to allow MIDI in Reaper?

A couple things that might have something to do with it.
When I used JACK with a pair of M-Audio cards, I had to use the option "-Xseq" to make the midi visible to JACK. I also had to use the command "a2jmidid -e" which is an ALSA to JACK midi bridge. Later I put this command in REAPER's "Autostart JACK box" on the audio setup page. You would need to change the M2496,0 to what your sound device is known as to ALSA. /usr/bin/jackd -P80 -dalsa -dhw:M2496,0 -r44100 -p64 -n2 -Xseq Currently I'm using a Behringer UMC1820 and don't have JACK or a2jmidid installed any longer. This particular USB audio device was recognized by ALSA and all of it's audio/midi ins/outs were exposed and visible to REAPER, so I removed JACK and a2jmidid. |

In Ubuntu Studio, you shouldn't ever need to open QJackCtl. You should be opening Ubuntu Studio Controls instead. Also, you will want to open:
Options > Preferences > Audio > Device Set the following: UNCHECK Autostart Jackd... UNCHECK Auto-suspend PulseAudio UNCHECK Disable power management... These setting are all set globally in the OS by Ubuntu Studio Controls. Quote:

with the keyboard disconnected, run these commands
lsusb aplay -l arecord -l cat /proc/asound/cards then plugin/power-up the device, and run the commands again, and see what's new, the Akai should be there somewhere. A usb3 port, (blue platic innards) might not work in rare cases. qjackctl connections page has 3 panels l2r, audio, jack-midi, and alsa midi. I need to make connections to reaper in both alsa midi and jack-midi to get midi working, but that's on an old 5pin din midi cable setup. the first link below covers all that well, and more details at the other links. https://libremusicproduction.com/art...g-started-jack https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/USB_MIDI_keyboards http://tedfelix.com/linux/linux-midi.html Cheers Last edited by 4duhwinnn; 05-03-2020 at 01:48 PM. QJackCtl has a patchbay button.
Does your Akai show up in the patchbay window? The attached picture shows my patchbay... OK, how do I show a link or image in the forums? I used "manage file uploads"... Last edited by PMan; 05-06-2020 at 11:10 AM. Reason: Can't see my uploaded file |

Thank you everybody for the tips! I haven't had a chance to work on the Linux box lately, but I'll try to spend some time with it this weekend.
