Hi all! Can a MIDI controller, specifically the Nektar LX 49+, be used with more than one daw? And would it play all the the plugins? Also, when I install 3rd party plugins it will be directed only to whichever daw I have open, correct? I’m curious because I write my scratch tracks on GarageBand but then export them Into Reaper and re-do everything on new tracks ultimately deleting the original scratch tracks. Would the controller be able to be mapped for both DAW’s? Sorry for all the questions...I’m about to spend some money on a controller. Thank you.
the only way to know for sure is try it!!
i know my nocturn49 midi can be used across 2 daws simultaneously... and i get 2 sounds coming through...
im not entirely sure why it does it... but it does
If you use a software like Catia (linux), MidiYoke (win) where you connect your controller to and route everything from there, you can send it anywhere. Using different midi ports for different DAWs would make them look independently to each DAW, but still be same, as those are connected to same source (via Catia in my case) but this the DAW would not know. Good luck.
Perhaps I'm not understanding the term "mapping". I was under the impression that a controller has to be "mapped" to a DAW in order for it to "control" the DAW's mixer, transport, panning, etc.
