Default Render selected tracks via master: not considering other MIDI?

I'm not submitting this as a bug report yet since to a certain extent this might be by design. I'm looking for a workaround currently if anyone knows of one.

Basically, I have a sidechain compressor plugin that takes in MIDI as its sidechain signal.

Now, say I want to send multiple tracks to be processed by this sidechain compressor plugin. Everything runs fine normally; the tracks go through the sidechain compressor and the MIDI I'm sending to the sidechain compressor is triggering it.

The problem arises when you want to render a stem of a track. If you select the track you want to render and do "Render selected tracks via master", you will find that the sidechain compressor is not being triggered by the MIDI that is being sent to it. You can even have the MIDI directly on the sidechain compressor's track and it still won't trigger it.

I have confirmed that this is a problem with the MIDI, because I can put other FX on the sidechain compressor's track and their processing is audible.

Does anyone have a way they have thought of to deal with this?

MIDI is not really used to sidechain anything

a compressor sidechain needs an audio signal going into it

I suspect you have a MIDI track with a vsti synth on it and you are sending the audio of that to the compressor on channels 3-4... is that what is going on?

IF that IS it, then just open the IO on that track and uncheck the master parent send while you do the render you want

don't do 'render selected tracks', instead mute the tracks you don't want to render

or if you mean you are triggering via MIDI messages - this might not work when rendering a track unless you render online, if it renders at high speed / offline, it might not get triggered by the MIDI as the track is going too fast for it

Ok I suppose I shouldn't use the term 'sidechain compressor' as it is kind of the wrong term.

I have a plugin that ducks the audio when it receives MIDI. The MIDI I'm sending is getting ignored.

I'm able to render just fine offline if I do it via soloing the proper tracks instead of running 'Render selected tracks via master'.
