That's it.
Haha, it's easy to list these three criteria.
But it's still incredibly difficult to get a
good mix together.

But it's true. It takes a while to get there though.

The difficult thing about 'discussing' stuff online is that it takes too long to type. It's easier to bang-out a half-assed, somewhat hyperbolic comment or statement, hoping other people 'get it', but often they don't and they in turn bang-out a reply that's hyperbolic in the opposite direction, and it goes back and forth a few times until people are at opposite extremes and can't stand each other...

I bet that if we were all hanging-out in-person, we'd probably all get along just fine, probably.

As far as I'm concerned, you guys can keep posting whatever you'd like, as long as it's got some honest reflection on the topic. I like thinking about this stuff, and hearing what other people have to say, even if it's like one sentence in a mess of crap, helps me do that.

Agree completely with this. If the mastering engineer is having to EQ more than 1-2dB on anything or is starting to use more than 2, 3, MAYBE 5-max plugins to tackle specific issues with the mix to reach commercial loudness and frequency balance standards, then the mastering engineer should really be getting back with the mixing engineer with notes on what needs to be adjusted in the mix. Mixing and Mastering are two separate disciplines, and, at least, on these forums, we see too much overlap a lot of the time. Like, if you as a mastering engineer are starting to dig into the Music Rebalance Ai of OZONE, for example, you REALLY need to put that back on the mixing engineer. Just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should do something.
