Default Pull Up Yo Pants

Any and all feedback is most welcome!

This is a supa funky, heavy, riffy, hip-hoppy tune penned by our very own sammydix a few years back. I do the wah guitar and some stuff in the chorus. The guitar leads, accents and various cool bits are courtesy of Stan G.

Pull Up Yo Pants

What do you think? How's the mix?

Cheers Rami.

Sam never stops impressing me, even after all these years. I can't even tell you the number of times I said to myself, "That's awesome, I never would have thought to do that" when I hear what he comes up with.

What a great reference. I love Gil Scott Heron. Ron Carter is a killer bassist.

Thanks for checking it out man.

Thanks karbo! Been great. Busy with life and as doing as much with music as possible, but that's not much these days. Going to be starting to work on recording a new tune soon though. Good times.

How are you doing these days? I see you posted a tune not too long ago. I'll check it out soon. Looking forward to hearing it. Always dig your stuff.

Brilliant Cosmic. Thanks very much brother. Really glad that you got into and dug the stereo feel. I've been trying to figure out how to get better imaging and placement for a long time now. I feel like it's finally coming together just a little bit.

I'm doing good, gigging a few times a month with the cover band, and trying to get some tunes of my own put together. I'm sort of torn between doing an EP or the "modern way" of releasing everything as singles. The four songs or so I've posted in the last year or two are for that project but those are mostly pre-pro, is this going to work type productions.

Take care!

You know I lost a lot of songs and mixes due to a HD failure a while back, but I'm glad this was one of the few that survived. Awesome mix to give this a new life, Kevin. I'd forgotten how good everybody was.

I think the unsuccessful pants-low-riding-protest peaked about 25 years ago, but thankfully groove never goes out of style and you mos def got dat.

You and me both, my brother. It knocked the wind out of me when I thought these tracks were lost and what an awesome surprise when you came back and said you found them. Still, it kills me that you lost any of your tunes. So much good music. All your mixes are posted here and there (and I have a few on my HDD as well), but damn man, sucks. Anyway, thanks man. For everything.

Very sincere thanks man. You have always had a very keen ear and great advice, so this means a lot.

Ha! Maybe the song is about plumbers? Hmmmm...

Thanks dude. On the subject of groove, something that is pretty cool about this track is that when Sammy gave it to both Stan and I, we both added our own bits, parts and melodies without ever hearing what each other was doing. Somehow it sounds like Stan, Sammy and I are in the same room, grooving and feeding off each other.

Some time ago I was collaborating with my nextdoor neighbors rappers/producers Otitis and Jules Galt, I had posted tracks from the various projects we were working on at the time. Sammy and I had also collaborated around the same time. Sammy asked me if my neighbors would be interested in working on a track with him and sent me "Pull Up Your Pants" with and without his vocals.
Sent it nextdoor and the first response I got was, "Why ? This song is perfect as is" I responded just do it. I had forgotten all about this until Fishy posted the tune. I dug around and found the "Pants" with additional lyrics and vocals by Otitis. For the hell of it here it is

Great stuff lads.

Sammy's soulful vocals and the lead guitar are awesome.

NIce mix --- a really interesting piece, the way its constructed.

Full marks to the old guys.

This is super cool to hear another version of the song. I've listened to this a few times now. Otitis is very talented. Great voice and great rhymes with a really good rhythmic sensibility. I'd like to hear some of his other stuff if you would be so kind as to PM me some of it?

Thanks very much for your thoughts Sambo. Very much appreciated, as always. Those guys are on point in this tune (and all tunes) to be sure. I don't grow tired of hearing this, even after spending countless hours mixing it.
