Anyone can test this by reducing the vertical size of a button.
I think that it would be much better if the text was aligned to Center, both vertically and horizontally.

Actually, whatever may be the case with the alignment, I have found a solution
to your problem. I went into theme tweaker on a theme with a very obvious,
very serious instance of this anomaly, and I went to the heading:
'Volume/pan label font', and opened the dialog. The font was set to 12pts.
I changed it to 8, being the smallest the drop down box allowed, but
there was still a bit of overlap, so in the edit box where the number 8
was, I manually typed 7, hit enter, and lo and behold the problem was fixed.
nothing else in the theme was hurt by this action because nothing else that
required a large font was using the Volume/pan label font.
Even if there were other elements using that particular font, there are 8
more slots that no theme uses all of (in my experience), hence, you
could always edit RTconfig.txt and change fonts around accordingly.
This phenomena being resolved by settings in the theme tweaker supports
my one-time experience of fixing it by pasting over settings in the
.reapertheme file. Thanks for bringing this to the forum's attention,
and it is something that I have wondered about, but never had a dyer need
to try to remedy until now. I'm sure others already know of this fix,
but I think it may still help others. Below is the fix in progress.
