Here are the partially-masked comments, obtained by a 'select all' right click on the page:

Hey. Thanks for these samples. Contact me about posting .sfz files for this set. A great contributor on a forum I participate in has created a full set of .sfz files for this entire set. I currently possess all samples and all sfzs for this set. I also converted them to 44100hz instead of 48000hz.

Hey man, awesome! Would I be able to get that soundfont set and offer it on here as well? Credit will most definitely be given!

Nothing specific.

But I'd expect such an offer to attract comments, likes, etc, and to be able to find much more about it on the web.

It's the general vagueness that's a bit odd, I think. The weird download.....the whole thing.

I'm making no accusation, but I have thoughts running around my mind about this offer and they are all of a suspicious nature.

Well, I hope there's nothing unethical going on there. In my case, the damage is done. I've already d/l'd it have been messing around with it a bit.

Hmm....

I'd installed the MEGA Firefox extension to see if that helped with the download. Then I decided to give up with it, and removed the extension. Then I closed my web session.

I've just re-opened Firefox, and my Free Download Manager plugin is disabled. Well, I didn't disable it, and it was working the last time I had Firefox open.

I'll do a system scan now.....

So, what's your best guess as to what this animal actually is?

And does the download scan as clean?

Odd, really.

No objection to someone playing around with the samples without permission (it seems), and then......no further comment.

I don't know, it simply all strikes me as odd. Especially the choice of the download host. Downloading into RAM???????

I didn't get the download as it hung at 75% and kept re-trying. I'm scanning my system for anything......odd .

Perhaps.

I asked myself:

"If I'd put a lot of effort into creating a set of drums samples to be offered up on the web, would I choose a host which insisted on downloading into RAM and offered an unverified Firefox extension to help things along?"

My answer was:

"No way."

Well, if these are just floating mystery samples of no known provenance, why don't you just sanely repack them and put them up on a conventional site where normal humans here can download them?

I would call this a plan.

Actually that's a bug in Firefox that it downloads to RAM (at least with the particular method they are using) - that one shouldn't happen at all. ISTR that it might be fixed in FF26, not sure.

I have Firefox v27.0. I'm no expert on FF, but I've always had a window pop up asking me if I want to save a download. The download then goes to the folder I've told Firefox about.

I don't know, but I doubt there are really that many people here slavering to get these -- but perhaps I underestimate the hoarding lurkers...or lurking hoarders.

Or, you could just hack up some mirror sites. Maybe one with sloppy page coding hosted by Kim DotCom.

I'm starting to wonder if we are seeing a new approach to downloading from hosting sites.......perhaps one we might not warm to very much???

From the horse's mouth, it seems:

What does "compile" mean here?

I think the situation is looking better:

http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrMpbSen0_o

Riley writes:

"My drum samples are from Analogue Drums programmed with Hydrogen."

So the samples might well be his own, compiled over many years as he says elsewhere.

I'll try to get in touch with him, and let him know about this thread.

Thanks for digging. I was starting to get slightly worried.

So he... exactly what ? Repitched AD samples using hydrogen ?

But they totally sound like seperate hits ! And no artifacts that i could find. AD doesnt even have those hats

I've sent him a message via his Facebook page. Let's hope he turns to a better host for his samples, if that's possible.

I kept digging because it seemed a shame that something genuine and good might drift into obscurity......plus my concerns about the download. He posted about his samples at sampleswap, as I pointed out earlier here, and nobody replied.

So as far as I can tell, he's had little praise for his efforts, which would probably be very disheartening. He might well not be aware of the issues some are having with the download, and the method for its delivery.

My system scan told me my system is clean, so no worries there.

Default Offering multiple download hosts

Hey everyone. Thank you so much for being interested in this pack. I forgot to set up a Google alerts and did not know what was going on. I'm creating links with different hosting sites. The main problem I'm seeing is that it's just too large of a file so it times out during the download, especially over wireless. I'll update you with the info later today!

The drum samples I use on my recordings are from Analogue Drums. The sample pack I provided is entirely different. It's easier for me to get an idea using already EQ'd and compressed samples from Analogue Drums and then redo them using my samples when I want to get a more personal sound.

I tested it five times with Chrome, Chromium, and Firefox on Ubuntu, Mint, Windows 7 and Windows 8 and had no problems. Didn't check IE. But I'm creating more download links today.

There's a review of MEGA here, with quite a few comments:

http://www.zdnet.com/review-what-to-...ge-7000010089/

The drums sample download does impact on RAM and CPU load.....maybe those experiencing problems are simply running out of available RAM?

From the smithultd website, under 'About':

"SmithULTD is a small art and design business created to bring your great designs."

Nothing about music there.....

The typo is interesting, when considered against one of the comments on the MEGA review page linked to above.

Seems fishy, somehow......not much to go on, just.....somehow fishy .

Why are the two comments on the samples download page both partially masked by photographs?

And this, from the smithultd homepage:

"Resources for Musicians

Being musicians ourselves, we collect many resources and tools from all over the internet and will share them with you."

Really?

How very kind.

With permission, one hopes. And perhaps a credit?

Thanks for the heads up, but I'm out of this one.
Everything we use that we find is either given freely (with credit) or re-worked with credit given to the original. It's weird because we have several different people involved doing different things. This kit was the first set or resources I'm hoping to put out. Looking to put out even more resources and tools.
Oh, and the masked comments are because they needed approval.

Thank you so much for sharing. Not sure where to go next, personally. The others are working on designs and website stuff. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

**CORRECTION** I'm actually doing research into musicians who make a living from music to see what patterns exist to create an article that gives a good process to follow. It'll be theoretical with a follow-up based on actual trial.

Default Dropbox and Mediafire

Hey guys, I just added uploads with Dropbox and MediaFire. http://smithultd.com/drum-pack-volume-1/

Also, looking to redo the site as a resources hub rather than a services page. Anything you guys think you'd like to see?

Hi SmithULTD, I just downloaded it but I'm rather confused. There are a lot of folders with 3 and 4 characters that don't make a lot of sense to me. Do you have any documentation on this library?

I'd like to try programming it into Kontakt but I'd have to know a little more about what's in the various folders and why.

Thanks for coming in, SmithULTD.....er....would Riley be better ?

I'm glad to see you're pleased about the interest here in your samples. I kept an open mind, but was getting stuck in thinking they'd been uploaded as some kind of hook to something else. Water under the bridge now, though.

I'll have another go at downloading, via the new links. Thanks for putting them out for free, but be on the lookout for a donation from me.

I'm enjoying your SoundCloud music and Facebook page. It's great to see creative energy on the loose !

Thank you RoboPlankton. I appreciate the kind words. My metal stuff is on hold for a bit (working on a blues rock demo to audition as a house band for a local bar/grill) but I'll definitely be working on some stuff.

Thanks SmithULTD, you might have and I missed it. It wasn't with the samples though.

Heh heh, so lots of different tunings. Also different postitions on the head, maybe some keyswithes might work good here?

The Rim (Rm) and the Rim Shot (RS), is the Rim an actual side-stick type and the Rim Shot a snare hit where the stick hits the head and the rim at the same time? I know, I can find this out but it would save a little time to know.

Thanks again SmithULTD, I'm exited to chech these out.

Correct. The Rim is a side-stick and Rim Shot is the head AND rim at the same time. The rim shot is great for a more in your face accent.
