Default Render REAPER Video with 3rd Party Codec

Does anyone know if there is a way to use 3rd party video codecs when rendering a video in REAPER? At present, there are not too many options and none of the 3rd party codecs I have installed can be selected.

The one I would like to use is the UT codec. It is lossless, produces relatively small file sizes for a lossless codec and is very CPU efficient. I've been using it with Adobe Premiere, VirtualDub and other editing/processing software for quite some time but am looking to do much more video work with REAPER.

More info on UT Video HERE.

Yeah. The exe is an installer that installs the dlls and does all the necessary registry tweaks so the OS and installed video programs know that there is another codec available.
Once installed, the codec should show up in the options in any video editing/processing program.
That is indeed the case on my system except for REAPER. The codec shows up in VirtualDub, Premiere, Photoshop, MKVTools, AfterFX and pretty much anything else I have installed except for REAPER.

Hi.
If you see codecs DLL's in the install folder, maybe you could try to copy them into one of the few folders Reaper is looking at getting them;

This is out of my codec properties in Reaper.
I'm suggesting you C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\UserPlugins

I don't know if it is going to work though, worth a try!

Good luck.

Thanks guys. I have no idea where the installer put the codec dlls but I'll have a poke around and try your suggestions.

It would be good though if REAPER could be updated to do what other apps that have the ability to render video do though and just give a list of all codecs installed on the system. I also have a pretty good H264 codec that would be great to be able to access from REAPER too.
