Adjusting buffer size Mac

I know this is a newb question, but how do change the buffer size for lower latencing when tracking on a Mac? I'm using a second generation Scarlett 2i2 if that makes a difference...

Same as on Windows. Preferences> Audio > Audio Device

It's part of the ASIO spec that the host application can attempt to request a different buffer size. Not all drivers support that, though, and you need to then change the ASIO buffer size from the driver's control panel/software.

First choice is to control both the block size and sample rate of the connected audio system from your DAW app. Reaper Preferences/Audio/Device page as noted.

You can untick the boxes next to those parameters to disable control form this control panel to allow you to use a 3rd party or OS based control panel. Only try that if the interface you are using demands it. (eg. It requires a proprietary control panel app or for whatever reason has a conflict with the Reaper control panel.)

Reaper is incredibly flexible with this to let you get away with using just about any hardware or OS that might have some stubborn or nonstandard quirks.

I'll trust the RME control panel first

The issue I'm having in this case is with an X32 Core. On OSX I seem to have no way to set the safety buffer size the way I can on windows so the latency at any given buffer size in reaper is excessive

In general RME doesn't appear to follow the Reaper block size setting (in windows), you have no choice but to to set it in the RME CP FYI. Not sure about Mac.
