Default MIDI Chord repository?

Hai Guise -

Does anyone know of a place where I could find, like, every chord known to man in MIDI files? There are like a ba-jillion people on the internet, surely someone has compiled this at some point. If, for instance, I want to throw a G#7 chord in a softsynth, it would be really useful to be able to go to my handy-dandy file explorer and simply drag a file called 'G#7' into the track lane. If I wanted to use inversions, I know enough to manually alter the chord, and if I want to arpeggiate, I can just space the thing out. But - has anyone already done the legwork on this?

I mean, you've got Chordspace and other vsti's that enable fairly simple manipulation of chords, but I guess I want a little more 'hands on' approach. Am I insane?

No it's a good idea (I think it's implemented in the fruity loops piano roll). But I don't know if such a thing exists...

If you don't mind doing the transposing and saving a gazillion different file names, I don't mind making 10/15/whatever-it-takes files of chords in the key of C (i.e - Major, Minor, 7, Maj7, Min7, 9, Maj9, Min9, m7b5, dim, 11, 13, etc.)

I've done something all that, it might be on the other computer. They're basically one bar chords good for pads. The other thing I did was write some reaper macros that would insert a chord in the midi editor at the cursor, plus some shortcuts to change the grid size.

Default Here you go!

27 variations of chords in all keys but only up to 9ths no 11s or 13s and some of them have variations in them. Hope it helps.

Default Then you might like these!

Some reaper macros that run in the midi editor. You just click the root note on the piano roll then run the chord macro you want and it will insert notes for the chord and then move right by the grid setting. i've assigned the numbers of my keyboard to the different grid settings and the top two rows of letters to run the chord macros.

nzdutchie's zip file is great and a very kewl tool to have around.

If you want to get a little deeper into the subject, check out http://www.jazzcenter.org.

Available under the "tools" heading is a primer on extented voicings with examples in notation, MIDI & MP3 formats. In some cases, they'll even refer you to recordings where you can hear what it is they're describing.

Talking about guitar, I made a set of custom actions which insert some assorted guitar chord voicings. There are E, A, C and G shape voicings, most in major, minor, maj7, min7 and dominant7 flavors (For D shape, just use A and delete the uppermost note). Plus some diminished 7 chords.
Always wanted to do some more, but never got back to it. For a quick campfire tune it's sufficient (great with Reaper's note position stretch modifier for strumming fun ) and it's quite easy to go from there and tweak them to anything else

Set the root key and cursor position and trigger the action of choice.
