Loving the prog (the original meaning) parts. In places I hear a 21st century Gentle Giant. Kept expecting Derek or Kerry to pop up. I actually listened to all the songs. Really excellent stuff. Too smart for mainstream. Following (even though I'm hardly ever on SC haha).

that's crazy that you would pick that up!!! Props!!

(I'm a huge GG fan, though never really learned or tried to emulate their music. though def super appreciate the reference, and it's super cool to sorta pay tribute stylistically! )

Opener feels like breakcore The Orb to me. Which I guess is another side of the planet from Gentle Giant

But honestly it's rather amazing(I love me some Orb).

Yeah it's the feel of having your radio tuned to outer space and even the guitar is alot like that Steve Reich sample from fluffy clouds. I suppose making such an audio kaleidoscope must be hella exhausting with everything changing every couple of bars, how long did it take?

ah cool, I didn't know about that sample in Little Fluffy Clouds.

haha...ya a long time.

I'd say it was about 2-4 weeks or so of actual work per track (full work days), over a period of about a year. I sorta worked in different stages,
composing
notating/recording
editing (comping takes, tuning vocals, editing timing etc)
producing
mixing

a lot of the stuff having to do with the live instrumentation could really tack on the hours. notating and editing etc, I don't mind doing, but it's def a grind but it's gotta get done! as well, even stuff like writing lyrics, and brainstorming concepts/graphics etc def tacks on the hours as well

Your effort was definitely worth it!

Bought a copy after my first listen.

Listened every day since!

Don't suppose you fancy making some more?

Hey Ampa!! Thanks so much!!

Super awesome to hear you're enjoying it

haha, I'm working on episode 2 at this very moment.

It's a short single piece, kind of an interlude till episode 3. I'm hoping to get all the production tasks done this week, and then do the mix in April. So "stay tuned"!

Interesting variable music. Having more reaper + redux youtube videos would be cool as well, showing how to combine those creatively. Not sure, how many vsti parameters of redux are available to Reaper, e.g. for parameter modulation and linking for example. Main idea would be how to make a 1 bar loop pattern variable in inself, using various techniques, most importantly probability and parameter modulation/linking/automation, incling efx manipulation from external hardware midi controllers, e.g. for livebeatrepeat or other crazy efx.

I missed this when it was first posted. These recording graft together an amazing span of styles. So complex and constantly evolving. The amount of detail and nuance is mind bending. The amount of work to put all of this together was staggering. It will take repeated listens to really hear it all. I am totally impressed. There are quit a large number of parts that sound like live recordings to me, vocals, guitars, horns and the like. Did you work with other musicians?

Like Sammy said, probably too smart for mainstream. But you never know. Sometimes people do break out of their ruts.

Going to go listen some more now.

Thanks TonE! Ah cool, you found some of that Redux stuff! (I'll think on that stuff you mention)

thanks tspring! and thanks for the kind comments, glad you dig the tune! Yup it was a lot of work, though (fingers crossed) I'd like to continue to refine that approach/style so hopefully with practice the process gets a little easier

Yup, the voice, flute, sax, dialogue, rap verse, and some of the guitars were all recorded. the rapping and dialogue were done remotely by friends, and the vox, flute and sax we did multiple sessions in the studio (epic sessions!). Those guys are good buddies and amazing musicians so it was pretty fun to record some brutal, technical lines hahaha

Invisible friend is great for example, however: In later points some sounds are mixed too loudly, I would find it more tasty if those sections would be mixed with much less volume. Dub da da perfect, drums/breaks perfect, slides perfect, after the break, many sounds I find too loud, those could be in the background, then kicking back the drums would be also more dramatic. Bell sounds could be less in volume. Not everything has to be in full volume, also the sax.

But independently from my personal thoughts above, you make great music, respects. For example: Padded Transition, the kick flow.

Hi all,

I wanted to pass this on to some people who might be interested. I didn't want to make a new thread and be spammy, so I thought I would just add on to this thread.

I have been teaching music since my early days, and with all these changes, I have also built a small online teaching business.

I realize most people here are proficient in their chosen areas, though some people may have some things they might want to dive deeper into, or as well, with the nature of the times, many people have extended family or friends who may be looking for some resources for further music learning.

If you happen to be interested in music lessons, or know someone who is, please feel free to get in touch. Here is my website with more background and info as well

https://www.takadimi.ca/

Feel free to say hey, sign up to the newsletter, or any feedback on the website's design or functionality would be greatly appreciated as well!

Btw, there is some new Gwok Radio music in the works, and I'm looking forward to sharing that as well!

Thanks, and all the best!

A contemporary style sorta similar to Gentle Giant and Kevin Gilbert but I don't hear any copying. It all sounds like - you. Nicely done!

I also missed this when it first came out.

Terrific. It's so packed with stuff that listening to it feels like an unpacking chore. I can only imagine the sheer amount of work that went into making it.

Not suitable for fireside romantic evenings, though. Or is it? I'm afraid of asking my prospective partners about that, but most of them seem little inclined to pet alien jellyfish.

Hey juan_r, thanks! Ya, I agree, listening back recently, I noticed how on first listen, it was really dense. Though I also noticed when I listened again, and I was able to anticipate the changes a bit more, it came across as more cohesive. Had a chuckle at how much of it I had forgot....lol

haha! not probably not too suitable lol. then again.......

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but there are a lot of similarities to Zappa's "Jazz From Hell" and his other Synclavier projects. But modernized. I'm a fan! I've got the tracks playing at work right now!
