Default Forget the DAW, Forget Being a Musician!

Yeah, forget Reaper. Forget having to be a musician or having any production skills. Here it is all set up for you! Sound like the PROS!

good for them!

let's make things more easy for the lazy

let's have more musicians

let's have more producers

let's have more pretengineers (hey im one too!)

this way

we will have more people and things to blame when we don't make it!

yay

Wasn't it the same complaint when auto tune and quantize or even random access editing came out. Tool is a tool? If we follow the anyone who would like to make music (even if it's the last thing they should be doing) let's make it happen mantra, a newborn will be able to record and produce a song 20 years from now.

I thought hard work on a "craft" was so last decade?

In all fairness i think it looks like a cool product. It's an MPC style sequencer. Their advertising is shitty has hell though. The words professional and hitmaker are thrown around a bit too much lol. I don't think their other product is doing to well btw so i wouldn't bother too much about it becoming something to challenge other DAWs.

Anyone care to explain how is it worse than any of the sampler/groovebox thingies and loop libraries available since decades? Can't be bothered to dive into that site.

Or even/especially stuff like logic pro x drummer?

btvsolo just looks like a sequencer marketed to beginners. If that's what gets someone into making music who are we to slag it?

I'm not, I'm just trying to start trouble. If someone is good or has the ability to be good, it really doesn't matter where they start.

I wonder if there's a colour painting version.
If you can't be arsed learn how to paint, will this paint a picture for you?
Can it write lyrics? I can't be arsed to write them myself. Or melody, or rhythm.
In fact, does this have the "number one hit" button?
If it does I'll buy two and be rich, rich, rich.
See you guys in a tropical context, on a big boat.

I feel so old fashioned...actually playing a guitar with real strings on it, or pressing down on real piano keys or blowing into a harmonica....singing off key. I mean , really, how old school..

But, in all fairness, I do use EZ....

No man. You need a virtual guitar with virtual strings played by virtual fingers, and a virtual keyboard, and virtual harmonica.
C'mon it's the 21'st Century after all! Get with it!

I dont think playing on a midi controller is somewhat not 'real'

I mean that's the magic of keyboards' universality, it was designed as keys so you play it as keys.

Now if you tune it to a certain 'key/scale' then it's just plain bullshit. Learn the sintrument. Learn your drums, keyboards guitars whatever...

And jsut don't take shortcuts. shortcuts sound bad.

play electronic drums or whatever. just learn how to play it

Anyone that calls them selves an engineer and doesn't do engineering - you know, analyze, design, and build things that solve problems is a "pretengineer."

I have good friends that joke "I have a B.A. in engineering." And it's funny, because it's true.

I was hoping for something like a Beyonce, Britney or Katy button [NO NOT ME! - the DAW] in an autotune fx, and maybe some CGI with a couple thousand preset choreographed group dance moves.

I made my first sounds as a budding musician with this freebie:

http://www.threechords.com/hammerhea...oduction.shtml

That was about twelve years ago. I remember the joy of getting my first track down in wav format, and playing it endlessly in amazement.

It did the trick inspirationally - I'm still getting tracks down, but with fancier stuff these days.

I still have the Hammerhead files I made. The program could never open it's own file by my double-lefting on the file, I always had to open the program and import the file. Other than that, it's lots of fun for all the family! Definitely a good starting point for youngsters.

Dallas Austin has serious credentials. He is also a very forward thinking individual and very well versed in technology. I met him 13 or 14 years ago when I worked as Product Development Manager at Tascam. He could have been content with his career as a producer. But he said he had an idea for a movie. A little later "Drumline" came out. This software is intriguing to me simply because he is promoting it.

Yeah, i was gonna say it reminds me of an advanced version of Hammerhead. Producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd/KISS/Peter Gabriel) is a partner and co-founder!

I have no problem with stuff like this. Music is a beautiful thing and *everybody* who wants to create it, whether amateur, pro, or somewhere in-between, should have tools available that will work for them in helping to express themselves. I can see this as being great starter music creation software for younger kids.

It looks good, a standalone sampler/sequencer/mixer with a nice looking workflow.... for $39. It wasn't too long ago (and still now to a certain extent) that people reserved this sort of mockery for Fruity Loops (now FLStudio) and Reaper.

True. My intro to Fruity was I was told it was for loopers and beats kids only. Believe it or not, I was told Reaper was just for heavy metal guitarists -- seriously.

I don't think it's the device itself in question here but in the way it's presented. Gonna make yo a Stah! Got all da stuf 4 hitz inside already!

All they've done is increased the endorsement factor used by Waves etc and their <insert engineer here> FX bundles. There is 100 times more necessary work that went into a piece of software like BTVSolo than any of those and this sells for over 10x less. Admittedly they've priced it at a point I assume is to get a large customer base in place to sell addons to later, but still. They are also cleverly addressing the piracy issue by emphasizing the support aspect of buying the software.

But yes, marketing is a funny old game.

How about just getting your kids some proper music lessons with real instruments? Novel idea...

Sorry, this is viral marketing at its worst.

Beat Thang tanked.

Solution? New DAW for hip-hop production.

No thanks. I'm completely happy with Poise ($50), Reaper ($60), and my MPD18 ($80).

'Proper music lessons'? You mean for a real instrument? Hey, that's hard work! Takes things like patience and practice. Could take a year, maybe two before a kid can be a stah!
