Confused about Samples

As I'm getting a bit bored with my Boss DR-550 drum machine, I thought I'd try Jamester's ReaDrum Lite as explained so well by Nicholas in the Reaper User Guide. Little did I know that I needed samples to complete the exercise!!!

I need some samples to complete my experimentation, but when "Googled," I am overwhelmed with too much information and hip hop this and phat that. In searching Reaper's forum, I did come across a set of "Giraffe" samples posted by Pipeline that seem to be a concise set. How about these?

Can someone guide me to a set of samples that will allow me to use Jamester's template without all of the confusion? I notice in the User Guide that the examples are mp3 form. Can I use .wavs? See my ignorance?

I don't know what else to add so I'll leave it up to ya'll to explain or ask me to clarify.

The Freesound Project is a great place for this kind of thing. Its a community type thing where people contribute and the samples are free.

They have a lot of the usual drum and instruments, but a lot of weird stuff too.

Thanks frozen for responding. I've found samples and followed the user guide, but am not getting any sounds. I'm at step seven and can't identify which keys go with which sounds. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Got it to make sounds!! Now, when hit record, there are no drum sounds and the item window is empty. HELP! Is there something else that needs to be checked or clicked?

I'm having a nice little conversation with myself here. I got it to record, but I have to use a mouse click on the virtual keyboard for the first beat in order to use the computer keys for the rest, which is why I was getting no sound. Kind of like a "jumpstart." Weird. I'm going to kill this thread with myself and dink around some more. Thanks again Frozen for your input. I'll probably start another when I hit a "real" roadblock. At least I've moved up to midiot.

I should put a template up with ReaDrum and my samples. Jamester are you bored anythime soon ?
