Reaper 6.0 Dark Mode Theme
Hey guys, I made a dark mode mod for Reaper 6 users working on macOS Mojave or Windows 8 or above.
It's an all-around carefree package of darkness, so to speak!
The theme also works for itself, but...
to make it DARK like this, you have to activate
dark mode (Mac) or install a dark theme (Windows):
(Instructions and links are below)
Instructions for Mac:
Type this into Terminal:
defaults write com.cockos.reaper NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance 0
To change back replace the 0 with a 1.
Instructions for Windows:
Download SecureUxTheme and Penumbra Theme.
Copy the Penumbra Theme files to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes and open SecureUxTheme.
In SecureUxTheme click on install, then reboot your PC. Start SecureUxTheme again.
Verify the Theme with SecureUx by pressing the Fix Signature-button.
After that click on Start ThemeTool and select Penumbra from the list. Done.
Links* (only for Windows users):
DOWNLOAD Windows-Theme:
Windows 8(.1): Penumbra8
Windows 10: Penumbra10
DOWNLOAD: SecureUxTheme
CHANGELOG:
v1.02 (12-17-2019)
- Reaper v6.02 theme and toolbar elements integrated
- New graphic added: mcp_sendlist_meter
- Color-coded YELLOW: Mixer-Sends-Text, mcp_send_knob_stack, mcp_sendlist_meter, Envelope: sendvolume
- Color-coded GREEN: Mixer-FX-Text, mcp_fxparm_knob_stack
v1.01 (12-14-2019):
New color for item text, colors for metering, item offline color, fader_bg adapted, small adjustments
v1.00 (12-13-2019):
Release of Dark Mode

Great stuff. It is my hope that at some point in the V6 lifespan Microsoft will unify the way it does dark mode for non-UWP apps like Reaper (that's the rumour I'm hearing, though I have heard it falsely before), and if it does we'll be ready

Thank you, man. Basically, I only did a few minor tweaks in reaper to make it coherent with the penumbra theme. I hope that in the future there will be more to come, either concerning the adaptability in reaper or the theme behavior of windows.

Define "fucked something up."
Yeah, it's safe. Choose the right theme version for your OS and follow the instructions. If you have problems installing penumbra, look out for a penumbra installation tutorial on youtube.

That's obvious.
In order to install custom themes, you have to extend access rights in the registry and patch some dlls. This is what the patcher does. This shouldn't cause any problems if you have taken ownership of the dlls. Nevertheless, create a system restore point before patching windows. Just to be on the safe side.

Love this
I was making a my own darker version of the v6 them and have to say that yours is better.
One request or question....does anyone know how to keep the mute and solo button aligned? If you minimize some tracks TCP but but not others the mute and solo are not aligned. They stack when the height of a track is increased.
I'm also going to try to separate the meter from mute and solo. I'd like the mute and solo to be aligned and immediately to the right on the track label with the meters on the left.

blumpy, check the Walter Theme Developer's Guide:
http://www.houseofwhitetie.com/reape...mers_guide.pdf
Jump to page 19/20, where it talks about anchoring a button to another.

I've encountered the same thing running the install steps out of order or when there's a new windows update. If you just remember to create a system restore point first and whenever the OS build changes, uninstall uxthemer and switch to the default theme first before updating.
It's a tiny bit of hassle but worth not being blinded by the light. You just have to be vigilant cos it's not set and forget.

Great theme, thanks! One thing that would be great if it could be fixed, it is hard to read the Media Label when it is written within the item instead of above

Oh, yes, thank you. This will be fixed with the next theme update.

It's part of the clean look of the penumbra theme, but you don't have to. It shouldn't affect the coloring.

Ok thanks, i got it working without it. I prefer yhe win10 look the only thing that bothers me with this theme is that the text is too dark. I want to have it 100% white everywhere, in the win explorer i got the left side as i want but not the menu, right side of the explorer. In reaper menu etc. I also want more clear text in the menu etc., when i get this figured out i'm 100000% satisfied . I do use an other reaper theme but we dark theme users has the win10 theme incommon

I'm not sure if I understand you 100%, but if your problem is with the win theme, you can use the CC Panel to change the Win10 color theme.
As far as the text color in reaper is concerned, it's relatively easy to customize. I chose gray text because white text on a dark gray or black background can be very exhausting for the eyes and looks like shit to my subjective perception. I didn't like the Commodore64_look back then

Yes, it's the win theme i tried the cc panel, it does affect a bit but not in all.. and the cc panel help guide isn't fully complete. If i could find a picture of win 10 explorer that also includes names of what all element is called.. border, menu etc.. then i could manually do this via regedit

Sure, I can understand your worries.
Whatever... I read earlier that win10 now also has a native dark mode.

Ah ok, thank you for your report!
I will change the instructions in the Main Post accordingly.
In this case it is necessary to install the Penumbra10-theme (if you want everything to go dark):
1. create a system restore point
2. download and install UltraUXThemePatcher
3. download Penumbra10 and open the folder Visual Style
4. choose the correct "build*"-folder for your system and copy its content to: "C:\Windows\Resources\Themes".
5. reboot your computer
6. Right-click an empty area of the desktop and choose Personalize. Select Penumbra.

I really love original R6 theme and Penumbra compliments it perfectly.
Can I somehow have just dark fx and browser windows etc without the modifications of the actual theme elements? (I like the original track colors not the green one you have proposed.)
Thank you
