Getting a legit ISRC code ...... for my song ..... can someone clarify the truth ?
I am wondering about getting a legitimate ISRC code for my song.
I found a website called http://www.isrc.com that seems to claim that these streaming services that offer 'FREE' ISRC codes may not be so free after all!
I was wondering if someone can help me determine how to get a legitimate ISRC code and from whom to get it from?
Here is what this website says about so-called 'FREE' ISRC codes. What do YOU say about this?

DistroKid will automatically generate new DistroKid ISRC codes and associate them with every song you upload. It's free and automatic and you don't have to worry about it. If you want to specify your own ISRC code, you can do that if you've got a "Musician Plus" or "Label" account.

I signed up with DistroKid and that is my understanding, too. They provide the metadata as part of the service.
There's this thing called IFPI https://www.ifpi.org/ that sells ISRC codes for 50 bucks a piece, which was the major reason for me to go with DistroKid.

Unfortunately, ISRC and ISBN codes are not unique. You have to ask yourself if the use you're foreseeing isn't hindered by that.

You can ask for a personnal ISRC code
It's free
In Belgium, for example, you have to contact SIMIM -> https://www.simim.be/fr/isrc_print.htm
it takes one week to receive back your code

What I meant was several of the services provide ISRC as part of the service/package. DistroKid does, CD Baby does, I'd imagine others do. This is not a DistroKid exclusive or nor a number of other services. IOW, just make sure to check if the service you are researching offers it.
