Default Synchronizing video with Reaper (Vocalist is on the video)

I have a home studio in my apartment, I painted one wall for my background and got a cheap set of lighting for $50.

I am wondering, when I record the video, just before the music starts I clap once to create a spike in the wave form of both the video file as well as the Reaper audio and use that to match the two files up together.

My question is, once I do that, is it a simple matter of muting the video file's audio so I hear only the Reaper vocal audio, or, are there any other steps I need to follow?
