Default Interesting vocal HF compression technique...

I was watching a Youtube video from Reverb.com about recreating the Motown sound and was interested in this vocal mixing technique explained in more detail here...

https://youtu.be/TysRGMSjtpQ?t=805

I played with the idea in Reaper by creating a Pre-FX send from a main vocal track (with no FX chain) to another track on which was an FX chain of ReaEQ (high pass at 1.3KHz) followed by ReaComp (5:1, 8-12 db gain reduction, slow attack, auto-release). I then blended the second track to taste.

I was pleasantly surprised with the result (on a female vocal, at least) - it still tamed the dynamics somewhat and gave the vocal much more presence in the mix :-)

Thanks for sharing!

This seems to be a nice recipe to try in very dense mixes.
