Bad video performance please help!
Over the past year, Reaper's video performance has been getting worse version after version.
I used to edit multi-screen videos without problem but now I can't even play a full hd video smoothly! Anyone else experiencing this problem? I didn't change my Laptop, is the same as always. Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz Two 8 gb DDR 2133 MHZ memory modules NVIDIA GeForce MX150 2 gb 512 GB SSD Disk I'm using VLC as primary decoder, and I have FFMPEG libraries installed.

Are you sure your videos are being decoded by VLC? Did you install the latest version of it? Check all experimental tweaks in Video window's menu.

Another possibility:
Assuming you have Win 10 or 11, there seems to be accumulation of timing problems after a certain amount of applied updates on certain computer designs. You may want to check the load on your machine with task manager (second tab). Odly, what solved it for me was to "uninstall" the video driver and sound driver (without deleting the files) and reboot |

Bad video performance
Papagirafe thank your for your tips, I'll check computer resources and try to uninstall both video and audio drivers.
Yes, Reaper is using VLC as decoder (64 bits version in Reaper 64 bits, Win11) https://i.imgur.com/sZplQpX.png Vitalker, I've tried every experimental tweak unsuccessfully plus disabling hi-res peaks, changing settings video resolution, etc.

Bad video performance
Vitalker, that's true, the screenshot I shared was from a 4k video.
Then I've tried with FUll HD video but the problem persists, even if I decrease resolution in media settings. Then I tried papagirafe solution and it seems that now it works better, thanks for this tip! A curious thing I found is that if I reduce video resolution in media settings and then I render to a higher value the result is poor. These new screenshots shows my actual performance using two Full Hd Videos: Idle: https://i.imgur.com/79cXKKL.png Plabyback: https://i.imgur.com/lzsbGtY.png On my laptop I have two GPUs but Reaper always uses Intel UHD and not Nvidia, no matter if I change this configuration in graphics options: https://i.imgur.com/xSD0XZ8.png

I had bad performance with DNxHD playback by using vlc, I switched to ffmpeg and it helped a lot for that video format. Hope it's of any help)
