Old Projects, updated Plugins, preserve Settings
Hi!
When i try to load an old project and in it, an older version (say Kontakt 5) was used, and now only the new version (say Kontakt 6) is installed on my system, an error message appears, stating that the plug in could not be loaded, but that the settings have been preserved.
Now... i don't know what to do with this. Can i access those settings somehow?
The important part is: Which libary was loaded in Kontakt, and what changes were made to the settings in that library.
When i load Kontakt 6 now, i have to guess which Library it was, and have no clue as to what settings were changed in it.
Can the "settings were preserved" bit somehow help me with that?
Thanks for any insight,
Micha

That is completely up to the plugins' manufacturers.
Regarding Kontat I found:
When upgrading the new version can read the settings of the old one. It then converts them to the new version's format and Reaper saves them when saving the project.
The old version can't read the new version's formatand hence you can't go back. So better do an update of the rpp file before starting the updated version.

Yes, this is annoying but a good reason not to uninstall old versions, that way you can save the settings in the plugin's native preset format which usually has a better chance of opening in the new version.
Generally when plugin manufacturers give a new plugin ID to an updated version it means there are compatibility breaking changes, but you could try opening the .rpp in a text editor, search for the plugin filename i.e. "Kontakt5.dll" and change it to "Kontakt6.dll".
I doubt it'll work in this case, but worth a shot and you might get a useful error message.

Pretty sure there is no Kontakt6.dll....haven't updated but think I read this was happening.
From version 6 it's just Kontakt.dll so next updates should carry over settings.
