Default SOLVED: Take FX can't learn midi control

I just got a new external midi controller keyboard (Nektar Panorama P6).

The Reaper integration is quite impressive.

I was able to set up a knob to control parameters in Track Fx without any issues (along with all the other built in functionality for controlling the mixer, EQs, sends etc.)

However, when I try to set up a cc control knob to control a parameter on Take Fx, it won't learn it. The learn dialog DOES detect the cc channel message correctly, but after pressing OK in the dialog, the parameter doesn't get altered by the hardware control. No connection is created.

I assume there is an issue with the MIDI not routing into the Take FX somehow. Can anyone else get this to work?

Reaper Version: 5.27
macOS Big Sur on M1 Mini over Rosetta

Midi and CC's don't reach take Fx, which is one of my biggest requests, at least in my system (OSX) , hope it works in yours !

If you mean can I record midi into items, yes that works just fine.

While not being reached by Midi CCs should prevent [PARAM].... explicit Midi assignment, the source of "Learn" (other than "ReaLearn") is not the Midi stream in the track but the global "Reaper control Path". Hence "Learn" should work nonetheless. IMHO, if it does not this should be considered a bug.

I think for take FX you have to move the knob and then click the "Param" menu and then click "Learn" and then move your controller. If that's already what you are doing then I think you have to "Enable input for control messages" for your device in Preferences->MIDI Devices.

Those are all enabled.

If you don't believe me that it's a bug, go ahead and try it for yourself.

Seems to be working for me. Maybe I'm missing something.

Probably! Since you failed to notice that I said in the OP that Track FX are working perfectly for me – that means that I know how to use the Learn dialog and my MIDI device control is enabled in prefs.

Are you sure you're trying on a TAKE FX not track?

Thank you so much for trying it out!

I just tried it on a new fresh project and it works! I will go back to my song and try there again.

Edit: Well, it works on my song project too. I am doing the exact same thing I was before, so I really have no idea what was the matter before. This is definitely not a bug and works perfectly here now. Perhaps some MIDI settings got a bit wonky. I've restarted my computer as well as Reaper since I tested this before so maybe that fixed it.

Thanks for the replies! No bug here after all.

Still could be a bug if it was acting weird though. Seems like one of my tries glitched for a second. I'm thinking a bug maybe.

I mean per example having an instrument plugin directly in an item:

I can't have any sound from the instrument when playing midi, nor i can midi learn a knob from that instrument.

This does not happen to you guys?

Yep deeb that happens too. I don't think any MIDI can reach item instruments or plugins but you can learn some controls on the instruments or plugins with Reaper's built in learn system (if they are learnable).

This happened to me again today and restarting Reaper fixed it. I think the OSC connection to my control surface needed to reset. Next time I'll try just editing the device in Prefs
