There is NO live music in Belize and I have no means of making music on my holiday..... almost no internet too. Forced to drink Belize Snow cocktails by the pool all day.
So your March 1st release date will be compensation for leaving all the lovely sunshine and palm trees behind.

They will get a discount on Real World Recording Vol 2 if they go with Digital Distro. I'm starting production for that in a month or so.

HI, loving your tutorials.
I have a problem with the slip editing function you explain. I set up alt-s like you, and it splits fine, however while continuing to hold alt and try to reposition audio, I have a different tool appear, looks like two hands pulling each other, and the audio does not move like in your video. Any idea what I may be doing wrong? I have the newest reaper, 64 bit and the 64 bit sws extensions as well. I'm hoping to save a bass guitar track with this method.
Thanks, Vaughn

Hmm. Holding alt and left clicking dragging a media item should move media content by default. Maybe it got unassigned while you were assigning the alt+s command. Make sure you are clicking and dragging a the contents of the media item and not the edge. The edge will stretch the audio and look like a hand.
Even though you can edit bass with this macro its really intended for drums. If you want to use it you will probably need to stretch some of the audio.

The one difference I see between your tutorial and what is happening when I try it is that my mouse pointer is the standard windows arrow head, and yours looks similar to a capital I. Its got me baffled. but I won't lose sleep over it. I wonder if I installed my sws extension to the wrong folder?
Thanks Jonny

The slipping of media within the region is a native feature.
Go to "Options" > Preferences > Edit behavior(on left) > Mouse Modifiers
under "Context select "Media Item"
Look through the modifiers. "ALT" should say "Move Item Contents"
If you are on a MAC "ALT" may my a different key... but if its not bound here for some reason you can set it up here.

All the options were exactly like you said, so I tried again, and still no go. So I tried it on a drum loop, different track, and voila, it worked. Tried it on my guitar track, works fine. Went back to my bass track, still won't work. SO I copied the bass to another track, and now it works!??? what the !@#@$. hehe
So can you think of any reason why it would work on a different track simply by copying the audio file? Are there track specific setting that could prohibit this? The track is not locked or anything, and I can not see any reason why it won't work on its original track? hmm
Glad I got it working anyway, and thanks very much for the help.
Vaughn

good stuff
Thanks Jonny for the freebies.
I also purchased the real recording and midi sets. So far they seem to be real well done. I like Jonny's style of teaching, Very nice and calm voice. I expect to learn alot but I still need to read the manual a few more times to be prepared for all the info in the videos.
Thanks again jonny and I voted for the next tutorial

Next Tutorial Series.
Johnny,
You've got do some tutorials on all these free plugins that Reaper comes with. I don't use them, but that's only because I don't know how to use them. I'd be the first in line if you made a series just on using the plugins, ie JS, LOSER, Liteon, etc.
What do you think?
D.

Quick Question, will the 2nd Real World Recording include the audio files that you used?

I was thinking of doing that this time around. If people feel it would add value then I will do it. Also.. the files would make the DL much larger.

I for one would really appreciate it for sure. I have recently gone thru a few other courses, and they had supplied the Audio Files that were used. It really helped to use the SAME files as the demonstrations did instead of picking one that was close out of my collection.
Anyhoo, ya have a vote from me for this & I will more than likely pick this up & the midi one together, since V4.22 is running stable here.
Thanks again for all the hard work Jonny!

Hey Smurf,
I just made this post on the website looking for submissions for the online "Improve my mix" series I'm going to do.
http://tutorialsforreaper.com/2012/0...my-mix-series/
I'm also working on Real World Recording V2.0 which I'm super excited about. Its going to be geared toward the more average persons setup in terms of mic inputs and stuff. I'll also be going through different micing methods with low input count and more advanced editing and mixing techniques to get or "low budget" setup to sound professional once its done.

Wow.. havent realized how long its been since i was on there to check comments.. I guess it stopped notifying me of new comments. Just replied to like 20 posts. including yours.
Answer: Any acoustic style will work. I would prefer an acoustic and a vocal. and maybe some layered acoustic parts.

Thought I'd post it all here too...
Taking submissions for Improve my Mix series.
Hello everyone,
To get us in the spirit of Real World Recording w/Reaper V2.0; which will include a “turd polishing” section and an advanced editing and mixing methods section, I’m looking for mix submissions from visitors.
I’m looking for these genre’s :
Acoustic Solo
Modern Pop rock
Heavier rock
Modern Country
Hip-Hop (focusing on vocal sweetening)
—————————————
RULES
Please have your tracks at least decently tracked.
You must have rights/permission from the performer.
You must have the full multi-track session.
I’m looking for NON-Pro submissions since these will obviously be an improvement type video… if it sounds perfect then I’m not going to try to “improve” it.
You will be able to choose whether or not you want your name/band/artist name suggested.
I’d prefer it if you used Stock Reaper if you can. I also have the full waves plugin bundle so they could work too. If you are using any free VST plugins just tell me which ones they are and I’ll get them.
——————————————
What will you get If I use your tracks?
A big thank you from me for helping the community out by giving them another example of mixing methods.
You will be able to keep the session file that I create in the video and use it how you wish.
How to submit
Send me your stereo mix down (doesn’t need to be mastered) to Jonny(AT)Tutorialsforreaper DOT Com with the Subject “TFR: Improve My Mix”
Thanks! I look forward to getting these songs in.

Sample Rate Question
I have the option to pick either Direct Sound or Wave Out in my preferences. I played around with the buffer and sample rate a little and now I dont know what it was originally set at. Im not too familiar with the preference settings and any help would be appreciated alot. I tried downloading asio4all as well like you had demonstrated in your tutorial video but when I lowered the buffer even slightly it clicked and popped. Same when I had it all the way up which led me to believe it was my cpu possibly and maybe needed an upgrade.

I placed an order for the "real world" dvd and paid via paypal. I haven't received any type of confirmation of my order?
My paypal payment was received so I'm assuming my order was received.
Just want to be sure he's still shipping these tutorials.
EDIT: Nevermind...I got shipping notification today!!!

I got you covered. ha.. Don't you worry, I'm still here. :-)
I had a hic-up on one of the Digital DLs the other day where it didn't send it out immediately.. but that was resolved too. Sorry for the delay. :-)

The best thing to do is start with 512 Samples, and move it down (testing each move with a sustained sound ,like strings) until you first hear a pop, then movei it back up one notch.

Jonny, I'm new to Reaper and have been watching your tutorial videos. Great stuff!
Question -
Do you recommend the Asio 4 All driver for my Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus laptop? It's locked up a few times when I try to add plug ins.
FYI I use a Lexicon Lambda for my USB input device. Seems to work fine but I don't know if a newer device would work better.
