Default Can't change play rate (pitch) to a lower value?

I just started using Reaper 3.03. On previous versions you could just right click on a track and lower the pitch to what ever you wanted, from the 0.000 that was default. Now with this version you can only make it brighter/higher, since it refuses to save my choice when I put a negative value in the column?

And.

Can someone help med find the function where you can set points on a track, and adjust the volume up and down? Can't remember the name, but it wasn't availible on the default settings when I installed this new version, and I know it must still be possible.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm... playrate on items seems to be working here? Dunno... Select an item, hit F2, bang in the pitch change. Works. *shrug*

Envelopes are accessible by clicking the button to the left of the FX button on the TCP or above the FX button in the mixer view (MCP).

Thanks for the answer!

I can't change my playrate to a negative value though, it just comes up 1.000 when I open it again, it doesn't save the setting?

Negative? Isn't lower pitch rate a number between 0 and 1?
Play rate above 1.000 increased pitch.
Play rate below 1.000 decreased pitch.

Are you confusing pitch and transpose?

I'm wondering that myself now. Does C-J want play rate or pitch? While play rate can alter pitch, it doesn't have to. If I want a clip a half step lower, I use the Pitch box and enter -1.000 Semitone. I hate trying to figure the math to do it with play rate.

Play rate goes from x.25 to x 4.0. In other words .25 is four times slower, 4.0 is four times faster. Another view; x.25 WITH "Preserve pitch" unchecked yields -24.000 semitones, x4 yields 24.000 Semitones.

Hope that helps...

Ok. I might have been confusing in my explanation.

I want to "lower" the song, to make it darker (as in not brighter).

For instance. Mariah Careys I want to know what love is. I have the instrumental song, but can't sing as bright/high as she does, therefore I want to lower it to fit my range.

In previous versions you could insert a negative value to do this, but it isn't possible now.

It's not the pace of the song, but how high/low it is, that I want to change.

What do I do?

Select an item (song) in Reaper, click F2 (or right click > item properties),
now locate "Pitch adjustment (semitones)" than enter -1.000, or -2.000,
or as low as you prefer.
