Just saw this, how many did you want? I may be able to split up a box with someone else who messaged me a little while ago.

I would want 33 at a minimum really so i could build a master and a bunch of the 8 ways to try to get em all interacting nicely. But i could easily go for more that wouldnt be a problem (parts for bribery on midibox devs to get them to help with designs has always done me well haha)

Whatever the design ends up being. I know that the only way I'm interested in purchasing one or more is if it has motorized faders and infinite knobs that recall via lights. wireless would be the real kicker for me. I'm not sure what the best protocol for reducing wireless latency is. Maybe bluetooth 4.0? I just heard about WiGig too: http://gizmodo.com/60ghzwireless

Has anybody ever found a good source for the Alps faders, the person in this thread who said they could source them disappeared, and it is the last thing keeping me from having a fully working set up

FWIW I used to get them from Canada in the seventies, which is where they were manufactured at the time.
Mind you I was getting large quantities for a (at the time) major manufacturer of low cost mixing desks in the UK.

have you tried looking online for a distributor anywhere globally and tracking down someone local to you that way?
Mind you the one thing I DONT remember was whether or not they were 100% OEM only back then.
But at least with a distributor contact you stand a fighting chance of sourcing an actual supplier, wholesale or even retail.

I know I giggled a bit about this somewhat quixotic project a couple of years ago when it started, but I would love to see at least ONE person manage this.

Good luck.

The project is finished, i just need a big box of alps faders, i would quite happily run at a 64 channel desk myself, but buying from usual suppliers they are going to cost £30 each in the UK, that is a complete nonsense

Oh.... Awright. How many is "a large box" and I will go talk to some fellow oldies in case there is someone we know who hasn't retired already and has connections with Alps, who I believe are now all Asian mfg.

No promises and it may take a while... some of the old farts are not online.

Well it was mentioned they come in boxes of 84 at $5 each
I would happily go the whole box at that price or even a bit higher

There isnt action yet, no faders = no controller haha, the original push was based on a user saying they could get some, which unfortunately always turns to dust, motor faders are very ellusive, so i hope nobody is expecting too much from Ivan

Been in touch with one o fmy UK contacts & he hasnt had anything from Alps since I last did, via the Canadian wholesaler who appears to have shuffled off.

One more place I can try IF I can contact the guy.

Trouble is, Alps were very active in pushing their stuff in the early days of touch tabs and not much since as far as I can see.
I got a bunch of faders that I used over the years, some nifty bcd encoders and a couple of USB discrete touchpads...
My connection at the time was via a fairly big UK mixer manufacturer who was using their faders. And who has been out of business for a long time too.

Are you sure nothing but the Alps ones will do?

I know I started this thread, but after seeing so many hardware implementations that are 60-90% there, Slate Raven MTi is the way to go. $2000 and can be updated.

Like this?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALPS-Fader-m...-/351013287752

And here's one with a different pinout configuration:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALPS-slide-m...-/261323253283

Here:
http://www.pot4audio.com/alps/potentiometer/price/
It ships from Germany with a 19% VAT, that's brutal. USA has been trying to implement a VAT for years, it'll probably happen soon enough.

I am waiting on a quote form a supplier I use for certain guitar parts (electronics) and the do 100mm and 60mm faders and in VERY fine print it says available in motorized.. we shall see how it works.. I am in process of getting a CNC machine for the guitar shop so I COULD make the chassis's pretty wood if wanted

Default Midi Limitations

Hi all, I am new to this thread, but like some of the ideas that have been discussed on here so far.

On thing that may be of interest, especially to those building prototypes with midi/usb as their protocol, (forgive me if anyone has already brought this up).
With MIDI CC you only get 7 bits of resolution for your sensors. Reapers automation supports much more than this,
I was wondering whether it would be better to harness some other types of midi message, or if using MSB/LSB pairs of CC channels was a better way to go. 14 bits of control resolution should be more than sufficient.
